Yup, unless you strategically sit in front of one of those evaporative coolers.

Freetown and Downtown are different areas, Freetown is considered the area from Johnson to Pinhook, and University to the Thruway. However, with Freetown being close to Downtown, UL, and the Saint Streets growing in popularity, don't be surprised to see the Freetown area see a round of gentrification over the next few years. Or atleast, we own a townhome in Freetown so that's what I'm hoping will happen eventually.

Pops
Spoonbill
Central
Dwyers
Tsunami
Vestal
Pamploma
The Wurst
Grocery
and many others are all doing great business downtown, its a significant improvement over downtown of just 10 years ago.

ETA: I've gotten older now and haven't stayed downtown later than 11pm lately but it definitely has a safer feel now than a decade ago.

Hopefully the 7-floor parking garage is well-ventilated. But it is Louisiana, so…

The chances of this happening are low. Developer is probably using this as a way to jack up the price of the lot to sell. It will eventually be some kind of 4 story faux French colonial looking apartment/office building.

Vestal is great, but the two times I have been they were sold out of key menu items, which I found strange. Maybe something to do with being a new restaurant and figuring out peak times post-covid. But the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is great.
I've been twice, and didn't run into this probably, guess I've been lucky. Agreed about the atmosphere, and the whole fish was fantastic.

It's not. It's lipstick on a very rundown pig. Bums litter the area, skateboarders stop traffic for tricks, and the dipshit hipsters just ignore it all. It's a typical gentrified slophouse.

You sounds like a joy to be around

I'm sure your small town is much better.

It is pretty dark and loud, I enjoy that though

What does this mean? I had no issue with the bathroom situation?

There will be two in each building. Plus a car wash somewhere up there.

I love spending an evening downtown in its current state. Dinner at Tsunami/Central/Spoonbill/Tula/Pamplona/Hideaway on Lee/Pops. Bar hopping between Grocery Tavern/Wurst/JSP/Annex/Grouse Room. Never feel unsafe, but I'm usually out of DT before 11 PM. So not sure if it gets shady late night like it used to when I was in college.
Right, I have no idea where these people are going that they feel unsafe, but we go downtown for dinner and post dinner drinks pretty often and we never feel unsafe. Add Vestal to your list, and that's 8 good restaurants in a pretty small area. Also, Carpe Diem or Reve for coffee. It's a really up and coming area, hopefully it takes off even more after the federal building condos/apartments are complete.

You can say that about every city in LA outside of New Orleans

Meh Baton Rouge’s skyline looks decent with the riverfront. Kind of cool driving eastbound through what seems like the middle of nowhere, then crossing the bridge and suddenly seeing a city off to your left, Tiger Stadium to the right, and some bulk carriers docked below.

"Don't go out downtown after dark, you might see a black person!"

You frickers are scared of your own shadows.

I'm far from a "Lafayette hipster"

Why so angry, Baw?

Downtown has improved a good bit over the last 15 years, but yeah, just get out of there by 10/11pm.

Every time I go downtown, regardless of what time it is, I get accosted by some bum who wants cash. And they've gotten more aggressive. Last time I was at central, some dude wanted money for food. I gave him a slice and he got pissed off at me.

I love the stores and food places around there but frick I hate downtown lafayette.

I'd still go over there instead of waspy arse river ranch though.

Lafayette has WASPs?

Honestly that's surprising.
