By the end of December it will get quite a bit colder. I can handle that part. Its the never-ending cloud cover from December to March that drives me insane some years.

Some reason I thought moonshine was legal up here now. I asked a waitress where to get some and she looked at me as if I asked where the nearest Meth lab was

Johnson City, Tennessee is one of the nicest medium sized cities in the eastern US. It’s just perfect there. My wife is from there. We may retire there shortly.

There are a lot of legal "moonshine" distilleries up here whipping up white lightning and all sorts of flavored grain whiskey.
Actual backyard down in the holler moonshining is still illegal nationwide.

I was at TRI airport for a work stint a few years ago August through mid November. First time I ever saw the “fall colors”. The hills and mountains looked like a painting. And the real season’s weather was a nice change.
I have a list, and it’s on it.

What kind work were you doing at TRI?

Sitting in a park in Maryville as I type.

Where at? That is my first choice when I retire. Probably south or east of Knoxville.

We passed through Chattanooga, probably worst part of the trip but that was only because of traffic and the Roads are still worlds better than BR

Best tsa line in America. Never a backup, despite only having 1 line operating most days. My dad is maybe 45 minutes from there, in NC. Plus allegiant flights are cheap af, and i can get straight flights with 0 layover if i fly out of Sanford airport.
It's cold af up at 5k feet now, and exactly why he's back in florida until beginning of may. During the summer it's incredible, barely peaking at low, low 80s in july/august... nice cool mid-upper 50s mornings. Totally fricks with we me while visiting, because my body is in florida summer heat shedding mode. Great whitewater rafting on the Tennessee side as well.

Chattanooga can be fun... but their interstates are basically the same problem as BR with a massive bottleneck and few good alternatives.
And there seems to be a wreck at least half the time I need to pass through.

Installed new escalators.
The private jets that come through there for the nascar race in Bristol were insane.
Btw, both Johnson city and Kingsport, chef’s kiss.
