Not sure what the deal is but I know several people that didn't get in on the first time even tho they smoked the MCAT.
One of the smartest people I know is a phenomenal GI doc. Despite great grades and scores he didn’t get in the first time. Gotta keep reapplying or apply to 10+ schools.

Me too… but diversity has to be forced sometimes (especially the construction industry) or you get 3 or 4 families controlling everything

Her problem, she was white with two doctor parents. So despite all this she was not admitted and actually ask what difficulties she had overcome in life, and did she understand the term “white privilege” in her interview.
I want to believe there was more to this story as in her MCAT and grades may not be as high as your were lead to believe. But taking it on its face, she could have answered something like:
“I don’t know how anybody could truly understand the term “white privilege” as the definition seems undefined and more and more things seem to be arbitrarily added under its expanding umbrella. Moreover, I’m not sure how that’s relevant to being a successful medical student and eventually an M.D. I do understand the word “privilege” and don’t deny that I benefited from being the child of 2 doctors. However, a big part of that benefit was their stressing the importance of education, of being punctual, of time management, of the practice of medicine being a moral calling, and all the other things I learned in their personal habits and how they conducted themselves professionally.
As far as having to overcome difficulties, I am a human being, so of course I have. And if my so called “white privilege” is what is gong to keep me out of this program, then that will be another difficulty I will overcome. And make no mistake, I WILL overcome it, and I WILL become a successful doctor, even if that means finding another program that is more concerned with merit, as a believe if there is ANY profession in the world that should be a meritocracy, it is that of a physician.”

In relation to their share of the general population, maybe. In relation to their qualifications, they are significantly over-represented. (Yes, even at 4%.).

quote:Yes, as requested by the doctor's union (AMA)
Isn't there a medical doctor shortage too?
And before some nimrod hurr-durrs it up in here about it being a union, the AMA is an organization that charges member's dues, lobbies Congress, and limits the number of doctors by restricting residencies
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck - it is a duck.
It's a union.

Her sin was obviously being born the wrong color to hard working over achieving parents. I am all for diversity, but wtf?

Us “conspiracy theorists” have been trying to tell y’all for years that it’s fricking racism that is going to be directed at white people but no one listened.
Everyone is going to learn the hard way and I don’t think it’s going to be a peaceful lesson

Hopefully some Jewish lawyers will get wind of this and sue the shite out of all involved.

Last year, UAB had 5700 applicants and offered admission to 288, with the final class size being 186. That's a rate of 3.22%, which is consistent with other medical schools which show preference for in-state candidates. In terms of their hiring, at the minimum, 60% of their hires the last five years have been white men.
There's a lot of victimization in the OP that is probably unjustified. If the girl applied to one medical school only, then she is naive as frick. I applied to 15, got interviews at 11 and only had 2 offers by the end, with 3 waitlists. I definitely got better at interviewing by the end, as I bungled the interview at my top choice (which was my first interview), and some of the interviewing styles, like MMI, I was completely unprepared for. Interviewing is it's own skill too.

She should have told them that she identifies as a rabbit. A gay rabbit that wants a sex change and votes Democrat.

But I’ll use Baylor as an example, since I find It unlikely the OPs friends daughter didn’t apply As of last year they were 41% white 41% Asian 4% black 13% Latino and 1% claiming other.
Plenty of white people getting in.
Plenty of white people getting in?
How about plenty of qualified applicants getting in. This isn’t up for debate, black med students get in with significantly lower MCAT scores and GPAs. They are being given every advantage to the detriment of other qualified students.
It’s racism
I’ll post the data if you dare to disagree

The dumbing down of America continues. This reverse racism will blow up soon.

From the USA College of Medicine Website
Y’all can do the math, but it doesn’t add up to the OPs claim.

Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our Class of 2025, who hold degrees in 28 different fields of study from 22 different colleges. They represent 39 hometowns in 20 Alabama counties and 3 other states. The class is made up of 28 males and 46 females, 16% of whom are underrepresented minorities.
