Somewhat poli related......
Bell Curve by Charles Alan Murray dove into the measure of Intelligence Quotient, broken down by demographic and social characteristics. He then went on to show how there was a fairly good correlation between achievement in American life and IQ, and how the IQ of some groups has changed over the years and why sociologists have lobbied successfully to avoid widespread testing since the 1970s.
Democrats would not like that book very much. And he probably couldn't publish that data today. He got a lot of heat for it even in 1994.

This is one of my most vivid memories from elementary school. I can remember where I was sitting in the room, the smell, the name of the ed. psychologist, etc. Plus, the red and white tiles, specifically, are seared into my brain for some reason. I couldn't have been older than 6, which makes it stranger. I was later moved into the gifted program, for what it's worth.

Children who show potential get sent for testing (including an IQ test) and if they're admitted, get a specialized curriculum, IEP, etc. For us, through elementary school you'd get taken 1-2 days a week to your gifted class, only with other gifted kids
This is what my son is currently doing and has since 3rd grade I think. He likes it. Currently 6th grade.
Me and the wife had to go to school and have them explain it to us. They apparently do it by subject as well if I'm not mistaken. Mine qualified in all 4 of them. Yes I am bragging.
Sharing the score he go on the IQ test and the one I took in the past when I showed potential doesn't matter because no one believes it here.

SFP is still angry because he rode the short bus and thought it was because he was "gifted".

Do you believe this?
I know there was one poster in that thread who claimed to have taken a specific test and scored a certain score that meant he was a genius. Yet, by the way it is designed, it is impossible to score what that poster said they scored. Not just improbable, but literally impossible because that is not how the test is scored, and the score they posted was well beyond the total possible points that could be scored on the test.

130 is smart but not gifted. I think 145+ gets into the highly gifted range.

According to the PT, America doesn't fund gifted programs anymore.

The older I get the more I realize I'm not that smart.
But I try harder.
But I try harder.

Private schools don't have gifted classes. They will separate students by ability, to some extent, but it's not remotely the same as GT programs in public schools with IEP's and such.

IDK how it is now but one of the ways that used to get you into gifted was having an IQ that was 2 standard deviations above normal which is 130 or above. - ask me how I know.
