i guess if you had a friend picking you up on the other side of the lake, with just a truck and no trailer, and it would be way longer for him to just drive to get you, it may make sense. Maybe. Seems like a LOT could go horribly wrong though.

Ok...let me explain how my dumb arse wound up driving a boat with the trailer attached.
I only live one mile from the lake. I had put out 40 jugs the night before and my truck wouldn't start so i could go back in the morning and collect. I had the bright idea of using my 4 wheeler to take the boat to the ramp. It had a ball on it...so why not.
I made it half way down the ramp and realized the brake wouldn't hold on the ramp and the atv clutch would slip and burn if I tried to pull back up. The brake would barely hold with the boat in the water so I quickly unhooked the trailer to free the atv.
I got all my jugs with the trailer attached. Beached the boat/trailer by the ramp and rode my atv home loaded with catfish. I called a buddy to bring his truck to get my boat and I swear he brought everyone he could with him to laugh as I tried to get the thing hooked up to his truck.
Somehow I doubt that is what happened with that ski boat.
