You don't have to swing between your legs, a good overhand swing and a snap at the end will get the job done. Done this many a times while hunting.

In the field if you cut them open and pull the guts out your hands can get messy. Skip that and just sling the guts out of them.

between the legs work but sling hard. A half assed sling with just make the guts like a whip and it will sling up your back.

They get nasty quick with the guts in too.

Always gut a rabbit immediately after killing it.
