FIFA needs to put them on PPV if they're so confident

I thought that FIFA bid both the Men's and Women's World Cup in one package for networks in the past. I guess they aren't doing that anymore and now it is good to see what each tournament is actually worth, and let the prize money be dictated from those calculations.

This is not a case of being priced out, but rather testament to a lack of willingness of broadcasters to pay what the women’s game deserves,

These idiots will never accept that the product is just not good compared to similar men's sports. I enjoy watching women's golf because the skill and athletic ability is taking into account by moving the tees up. If they had these women hitting from the tips like the men and we had to watch them try to hit 3 woods and 4 irons into every green all day it would not be an enjoyable sport. Women's tennis and volleyball are enjoyable as well because they are on a smaller court and their speed does not look as slow compared to say soccer and basketball. When they are on a wide open soccer field or we see the men flying up and down the court in basketball, you get a real sense of how much slower the women's game is actually played and it just isn't as enjoyable to most.

fricking pathetic. FIFA will go back and beg for those original offers

If there is one thing FIFA likes it's money and they don't care how they get it. If they turned down this deal it sure as shite isn't because they are standing up for women. They think they can get more money one way or the other.

1.12 Billion (I doubt that seriously) is what they claim for the last WC final.

They are claiming 15% of the population of Earth watched the women’s Wc final?

When has FIFA ever been about the money? Oh, wait it's almost November and World Cup time.

Official FIFA figures show the 2018 men’s World Cup in Russia generated roughly $3 billion in broadcast revenue, whereas the equivalent 2019 women’s competition brought in about $300 million.

So I would expect if the womens tournament has 1/3rd of the viewership then the rights revenue should be 1/3rd of the mens.

Prior poster was wrong.

1.12B was total viewership for entire tournament

Yeah, apparently that was the viewership for the "World Cup Finals" which is the whole tournament and not just the final match.

If you have a product to sell it is worth whatever the highest bid is, unless there were bidders that wanted to bid, but missed the deadline.

Did they have an unmet reserve, or does it just go to the high bidder?

wait.. what? Women play with a shorter net in vball but the courts don't change in either. You think they change centre court at Wimbledon when the women play?

Never said that it was a smaller court than what the men played on. I said the court in general is smaller. Thus not requiring them to have to run at top speeds for a significant distance. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

If they’d use Megan Rapinoe on a worldwide marketing blitz, I just know enthusiasm would be through the roof!

He said that for women’s matches in the UK, broadcasters pay roughly 2% of what they do for the men’s equivalent. That’s despite the women’s audience being equal to about 20% of the men’s.

No way in hell the 20% is true.

Who watches womens soccer?

This country is the only one where people sorta care about it
