While you are correct, it can be reasonably explained if you understand it to be a possessive "s" as in "Kroger's" since the store belongs to the Kroger company and you are clarifying that you are going to Kroger's store.

That's how I have to think of it when I hear folks include the "s" in the name.

Why the hostility? So I misspelled a word. Also, my grammar is correct. I did learn some things in high school and my 4.5 years at LSU.
