That makes zero sense to me, but people don't always act rationally during emergencies so sure, maybe. Point is, there are question marks with regard to his actions, at least if the NYT article is accurate.

Probably, 20 minutes is a long time to wait on police in a city like NYC. That's not the issue though. The father supposedly didn't notify police, call 911, or ask for help from anybody for 20 minutes while his daughter was being raped.

But really, if it was anyone of us, I can see both sides: dying for your daughter or leaving. When faced with life and death, it's not black and white for some people, for others it is. If you fight, you might get shot and die and they flee.
Or if you fight and die yet they still rape her then you died and it's even more fricked up than what it was. Then again, they might not have even had a real gun, maybe a starters pistol. So many scenarios.

As a concealed carrier,
I'd act like I was going to leave to get the idiot with the gun to let his guard down.
Pull my gun. Kill all 5 of them.
Save my daughter from rape and do the world a great service by killing 5 pieces of shite.

That's what's wrong with your argument. In NYC, you wouldn't be a legal CC'r so if you did what you propose you would most likely be in as much trouble as them or, more likely, if you are a law abiding citizen, you wouldn't be carrying at all. Not defending the guy but what you would do legally here won't work in NYC, Chicago or Philly because of the gun laws.

Who knows. NYC is still the city of Kitty Genovese. If the father did not have a working cell phone, others may have declined to help.
Bottomline: 5 subhominoids gangraped an 18 yr old girl in a public park, and the focus by some here is on the fact her father may have made a "bad" decision?
