I believe it's more about the type of food people eat. I believe that the chemicals in junk food are addictive and I know sugar certainly is for some people.
You don't ever see anyone addicted to healthy food. It's always trash food.

I got a buddy. And nothing gives him a bigger "high" than binge eating.
He is 300 pounds and obese. His only hobby is eating, he doesnt enjoy anything else. The crazy thing is he is a smart dude but he is emotionally stupid.
Everyday he says he starting his diet. Been saying that for 1 year now. Hes bought everything to start, got rid of the junk food. But something happened and now everyday is just a new day to eat.
IDK what to do with him. He is having a sharp chest pain every couple of months and refuses to go to the doctor.
They prescribed one of those GLP 1 shots and Insurance didnt cover it.
But I will try to talk to him again. I think a lot people sleep on this addicition. He will probably get fired from his job because it is a physical job and there is a expectation of performance, but somehow he gets by.
Can you have an intervention with these people?

Sugar can be addictive. So can chocolate.

But like with all addictions, if you aren't impulsive and don't have a low IQ, addictions don't exist.
I don’t think IQ has anything to do with addiction. There are LOTS of smart people who have or are recovering from addiction.

Your brain thinks you’ll die without the drugs, excess food, sex, and whatever else. It has nothing to do with IQ.
Addictions persist because our brains crave dopamine.

You can be addicted to anything. The issue is whether or not you can overcome the addiction. Some may be easy (like food), others may be inherently more difficult (like crack).
Food could be argued is one of the most difficult. It's the only addiction thats a necessity to survive. The effects of drugs on the body are certainly more intense but I don't need crack to survive.

There certainly is a lot of research into food addiction. Unfortunately, it is the food companies trying to make more profit doing the research.
McDonald’s has been a leader in making food more addictive. From fatter straws the burgers you barely need to chew, it’s all to induce a faster and bigger rush.

Yes, it's all about serotonin releases.
So interesting that this chemical, partly produced in the gut, has such a major impact on mood/depression. It's why many antidepressant meds will make a person's weight go haywire. (Probably another reason so many people are walking around overweight.)
We haven't even scratched the surface of the impact that GLP-1 research and meds are going to make on society.

I am addicted to Reese’s peanut butter cups. I will eat a whole bag of minim Reese's if given the chance. However I control this by not buying them.

You've obviously never had Kartchner's boudin
Kartchner’s is decent, but Billy’s is the best boudin in Acadiana IMO

Obesity is a choice
If you were them, you would make the same choices. Free will is an illusion.
