Yes. But tt's Ok to insult Mericans though as long as they don't have a hyphen in front of "American" in their racial description.

It can be taken that way, but it doesn't have to be I think. It depends on how seriously you take yourself.

They should have banned it for wanting to call it 'Merica Day" instead of America Day.

That, and I'll wait to hear what the admins have to say...but if what's reported is true it's absurd.

thanks. ok i guess if i heard a theme was "merica day" i'd show up in a john deere muscle shirt with fried twinkies and call people with dark features "foreigners" and stuff.

i don't really take myself seriously.

my question i guess was more intended to discern what the intent was of the day and whether or not the adults even "got it"

edit: if i was a teacher i'd just show the film "Rocky 4" all day. so many lessons.

The use of this practice to indicate race is beyond stupid.

Ya you have to consider these are high school juniors coming up with this, so take it as serious as you want, but to a juvenile extent. It's kind of a fad saying it like that instead of "America".

I served 8 years in the army, mostly as a light infantry medic. I considered myself as patriotic as one can be. That being said, I sometimes feel embarrassed to call myself an American, we've become such a cowardly country.

ok, that's how i took it at first. when you have twin day and pajama day it wouldn't be crazy to have what could be considered a "spoof on america" day but it seems like the admins and such took it as a patriotic day.

i dont' have a problem with either and think the country has gotten a lil too crazy with all the PC'ness lately.

but no one wants to get sued or fired in this economy. so there's that.

the fat, lazy, entitled, tv watching, geocentric, ignorant, stereotype of americans?

is that the issue? or is it truly a celebration of the country?

i'm not trolling i'm asking seriously, why would they call it "'merica" day?

This is what I was coming to post. Who would seriously be OK with celebrating a meme of themselves

The same reason someone would wear Nazi garb and say "its for Germany"

Because it is funny

Auburn has the Alpha Psi Rodeo each year, and students just dress up as completely redneck as possible because its funny/a fun time.

Its a damn spirit week theme trying to get people to interact and have fun. Banning it is just plane idiotic.

Probably a lot of people. The same people who don't take themselves too seriously. The ones that don't understand when some random person in New York gets offended when a group in New Mexico celebrates "black American" day and someone wears a basketball jersey.

No, I agree. Had the students genuinely wanted it to be some star-bangled day, then why call it 'Merica Day? Not saying they definitely did not, and they were being ironic...but it's a strange thing to say if you're not being ironic.

'Merica Day seems like you're fishing for future internet meme photos.

since i have a sense of humor though, i can only speak for myself.

Yeah but a Rodeo in and of itself isn't a meme. This is more like people dressing up in a darth vader customs to go to Raiders games.

So then the only conclusion we've reached is that we should never ever have a day where we dress up to celebrate a particular country for fear of one person depicting the worst of that particular culture.

I have a feeling though we will still celebrate Mexican culture in Spanish II.

So the issue is that it is a meme? Are you seeing how ridiculous that is?
