How did he convince himself that was a good idea? He had to grab the pen, run to the witness, and jump into the witness box with security in the courtroom. The odds of him doing any type of damage was extremely low. But hey, at least they don't have to waste any tax dollars to house and feed that fricking waste of space.

He probably thought they'd tackle him at worst. If he knew it was a one way trip, he should have tackled the witness before stabbing him. That way, the police can't easily shoot him and he has more time to stab.
Props to the witness, though. He has good reflexes.

I enjoyed all the prosecution side getting on the ground when the Marshal was clearly yelling at the suspect and trial audience to do so.

If by backwards, you mean one of the best states in the nation when looking at economy, poverty rate, educational system, marriage rate, out of wedlock birth rate, life expectancy....yea sooooo backwards.
You don't know anything about mormons. They have some of the highest incomes in America, commit some of the least amount of crime, very strong communities, etc.
It's sad that you are so close minded that you think someone's religious belief automatically makes them "backward"
