The Germans engineer thier ICEs with very large crankcase/oil capacities. Diesel engine manufacturers do the same.
That's good enough for me. When in doubt, trust the best mechanical engineers.

They even make a bigger version of the ph8a Motorcraft part number FL 299 holds another .5 quart cheers

And use synthetic oil as well..
Changed the oil in my Firman at 100 hours… Still had a good amount of oil left. Put 10w-30 synthetic in it. Still running clean…

This! You can never ever have too much oil.
Buuuuut- the oil level can be too high!
That’s the beauty of using the big filter- you get added capacity that helps cool it, and will let you go longer before you have to fill it up. As long as you keep the dipstick level right- you’re golden- much like using a bigger oil pan.
Every single engine application I have ever done- and most manufacturers have a bunch of different pan options- I designed the vehicle chassis to accept the absolute biggest pan I could shoehorn in.

Alright Mr. Know-it-all. Riddle me this, I’ve heard that using synthetic motorcycle oil is best for these engines due to the engineering for higher RPMs. Any truth to this? TIA
100% true- in the tier’d emissions diesel world, we can let people go 600 hours now between changes up from 250 because synthetic oil technology has improved so much over the last 15 years.
In fact- Generac will tell you a mineral based SAE 30 is good, but their recommendation is for a 5W-30 synthetic across all temp ranges.
Modern synthetic motorcycle oil is fantastic stuff- a newer 4 stroke dirtbike uses technology that once was only available in the Formula 1 world. You can bet you arse the oil is good. I use Motul in mine.

My diesel 7.3 PU holds damn near 3 gallons of oil

Yep- the 13L engines I normally fool with hold 7 gallons! :-)
I love the downvoters- people downvoting that wouldn’t have the slightest clue how to do an air to boil test on a cooling package, yet I have some vehicles that I designed forever ago and they have over 40,000 hours on them and still rocking on.

I do the same thing for my truck. OEM size is a WIX 51042 and the longer filter is a Wix 51522. '06 Silverado 5.3

subMOA not sure if you will see this.
What motor did you put the Napa 1515 filter on? I'm still without electricity and due for an oil change. I have the 24KW with the G-Force 1000 motor. The diameter of gasket on the 1515 filter is larger than the Generac filter I'm currently running and not sure how much bigger it is than the mating surface on the motor. Looking at the specs it's almost 3/8" larger diameter than the Generac filter gasket. So I'm not sure how you can say that the 1515 has the same base. I'm all about putting a bigger filter on all my motors. I've done it on my Kawasaki that's on my Exmark just not to the extreme as you are claiming with this filter.

Only if the level is high enough to dip the rods/counterweights and aerate the oil. As long as the level is correct, you could have a million gallon sump on a 4 stroke weedeater and it work fine.

Not if your adding capacity.
Adding too much oil to the crankcase can make for frothy oil that doesn't lubricate properly, as well as increase pressure on seals and gaskets which is bad. But if you add capacity, you can add more oil without doing harm to the engine.

22kW Guardian at my mom and dads- 3/4” threads- same as the little Generac filter. The gasket is just a hair bigger on the 1515- but it works and seals.

Now subMOA, being an expert on general automotive knowledge, can you tell me... what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?
Posted on 9/9/21 at 10:18 pm to 81Tiger
That’s a bullshite question- GM didn’t make the 327 until the early 60s.
And besides counselor- no one today would still have a swapped 327 in a Tri-5 Chevy. All the cool kids put LS motors in them now.

Well the outside diameter of the gasket on the Generac 070185ES is the same as the inside diameter of the 1515. So on mine I wouldn't say it's a hair bigger.
