You realize that tenure exists BECAUSE of unions, not in spite of them?
The stupid fricks reward seniority over competence and everyone else pays for that bullshite.

What was the sticker price of a comparable model with the same exact drivetrain when they started making them 15 years ago? I'm gonna guess it was around $25k.
Eta: I actually have my original window sticker with MSRP laying around somewhere. That's how I know what the price was back then

All you little whiney assholes who have never been in a union, but put down on unions should stop and think, "what if unions did not exist in our country?"
You think the companies, both union represented now and not represented would keep your pay as it is? If you think workers would prosper without unions in this country you are an IDIOT! Wages would decline across the board..sure companies would have to remain competitive to maintain a competent work force but overall the pay bar would be lowered while the fat-cat CEO's would swim in money!
So all you IDIOTS out there...be careful what you wish for!

Markets would set your value like it should. Why doesn’t the UAW ask for $150/hour since they just make up numbers?

Before 5am and we already had the dumbest post of the day. You should really let other people wake up and have a chance before you post something as strong as this.

I was Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. (The very first union in the US btw)
Not a fan of the union when I was in it and not a fan now.
How about you Ace?

Our competitiveness on the world economy would improve dramatically. And prices for thousands of items would go down. There would be a manufacturing renaissance here, millions of jobs would be created, and hundreds of billions of dollars would be saved.
That's a start.

This. Glad we have some common sense around here.
The posters that are anti-union are the ones that were born with a silver spoon in their mouths.

You don't need a silver spoon to be anti union. Just a basic class in economics will do.
GM's absurd union contracts are what ran it into bankruptcy. It should have been broken up and bought out by private equity. It would be a growing, competitive, cutting edge company. Offering vehicles at lower prices.
Now it is just a bloated make work program for corrupt unions and their political hacks. Next economic cycle it will be bankrupt again. Eventually the union jobs will be entirely replaced with robots. You can't ignore economic laws forever.

I was in a union for several years and got nothing in return for it except paying dues so my union rep could fly all over the place and live the high life.

Literally no downside for GM/Ford/FCA and the country if the UAW was busted and broken.
The UAW provides value to its leadership - and puts their own member’s jobs at risk by leaching their employers to death.
The taxpayers had to fix a UAW-caused mess before. frick the corrupt UAW for trying to create another mess.

They teach valuable lessons on why it’s important to avoid union labor...they just don’t realize it.
