watch out cause their students will just jump right into the crosswalks with not a single glance at traffic. I guess it's some yankee rule to where they can walk wherever the hell they want.

Yeah that's not just the Harvard kids....no one in this city understands the concept of crosswalks. You get used to it though.

Agreed, but that's a stop on the Freedom Trail so if he's planning on doing that he'll get to the Constitution.

Duck tour was cool. Your of Fenway was good also. If u are into history, the bus tour (1/2 day) of Cambridge, Concord & Lexington was very informative. Stayed at Omni Parker House hotel which has a lot of history & is blocks away from Boston Commons & Freedom Trail.
Took a road trip to Newport, RI & did the "Cliff Walk" & stayed @ Vanderbilt Grace mansion.

Cape Cod is great, but it's a good 4 hour drive so it would't make sense to drive there without staying the night. With a limited amount of time in Boston I wouldn't recommend this

We flew into Boston on a Thursday, drove to the Cape on Friday as we were going to a wedding on Saturday. Toured the light houses, went to Provincetown ... left early Sunday am and caught a Red Sox game Sunday night and then walked our asses off on Monday doing the Freedom Trail and then duck boat but it was right after Labor Day. I'm sure we missed a lot but for the time we had I'm glad that we were about to see some of Boston AND visit the Cape. Flew out Tuesday am.

eta We also stopped in Plymouth Rock as it was on our way -- just don't remember if we were going or coming!

Santarpio's was hit by the wife and I on three occasions at night as we were staying at the Embassy Suites a couple blocks away. Good stuff.

I'll agree with the freedom trail at your own pace without a guide. The city is so compact we found that to be a great way to take it all in.

We did the ferry to Salem. Lucked out and saw the USS Constitution pull out and turn around in the harbor. Apparently that happens twice a year or so.

Salem was a great visit as well. It was the week before Halloween for us so the place was festive.

Do Harpoon instead

might go see Beacon Hill

That's at the end of the Freedom Trail. You can walk all the way up to the top of the monument too.

If you're with women bring them to Newbury street. Lots of shopping to do there.

We went to the Cheers bar which was pretty sweet.

Not even close to the best burger in the city. Not even ballpark close. The cheers bar is as touristy as it gets. If that's the best burger you had in Boston you need a better tour guide.

you're a piece of work, it doesn't matter what I say about Boston, you proclaim it touristy or cheesy, it's a fine burger, and there's only so much you can do with a burger, and I am the grillmaster of the world, variety is the spice...

I've been called much worse than a piece of work.

I don't mean to rain on your parade. To be honest I didn't realize I had responded to you more than once. But I do think that Cheers is a tourist spot - both the real bar and the set. That said, if you grew up on the show it's certainly something to see. But best burger? Nah.

LINK

Here is a fairly recent list of Bostons best burgers. With the exception of 5Guys (how the hell are they on the list?), this seems like a much better list of options. Just my humble opinion though.

I was referring to the thread that I referred the OP to. Cheers is definitely a tourist spot(never saw an episode while it was in production BTW,) I'm not taking about going in there and hanging out expecting to see Cliff and Normie, I'm talking about going in there to grab a cheeseburger for lunch, that's all. And like I said, there's only so much you can do to a burger, not a huge gap between best an worst.

Seriously I have checked for "best burger" (or relatable) lists for other citis and they make them here and there. Makes no sense.

Wow you have a much better memory than I do apparently.

I'm not saying it's a terrible burger or anything, but when you only have 4 days in a city I would just want to maximize my eating opportunities (I love eating on vacation, I'm a fat kid at heart). I just don't think cheers is the best use of a meal.

I really am not trying to be an arse, just giving my two cents.

ratings are largely influenced by the people that want to be rated, Camelia Grill for years was "rated" one of the top five burgers in the country, and it was just a frozen patty thrown on the griddle, but tasted like one of the top five at 4 in the morning after partying all night, and no chain burger joint should ever be on the list though I love me a Whataburger

I know, and I'm not advocating putting it on the itinerary as a must do, there was mention of going there, and I threw my two cents in about the burger, no biggie. I know what you mean about the fat kid part, when the wife and I travel, a large part is eating and drinking.

I completely agree. When I have people come visit in Boston, 95% of the things I suggest involve food or alcohol.

Aren't there two different Cheers bars? The Bull and Finch that was used for the exterior shots, and a second one whose interior was copied from the show?
