That’s not an article. It’s a commentary/opinion piece.

So it would qualify for the front page of wapo or wsj?

Can you refute anything he stated as fact? If so please share it.

If I read it, maybe. Don’t really have much interest in reading it though.

Apparently, ignorance is your bread and butter.

I assume that you didn't know that UAB is a world renowned hospital. A lot of doctor's in Alabama received their degrees and training there.

The irony of replying with this to a joke about the state of Alabama.

I don't see anything wrong with what the doctor said- very logical, totally agree!

I am a doctor and I don’t live in (and didn’t train in) Alabama and I will tell you that UAB is one of the finest and most well-respected hospitals in this country.

Curious. Do you agree with what the doctor wrote?

Why didn't you quote the addendum?

Opening paragraph:

quote:

This is being written on April 19, 2020. Although there is a central author, it is being written on behalf of multiple physicians in West Alabama and will be distributed through multiple medical offices. Between us we have well over a hundred years of practice and have treated hundreds of thousands of patients suffering infectious diseases. Including mission trips we have treated patients on five continents. We planned this date for several reasons.

Then the addendum at the end:

quote:

ADDENDUM: I would like to address a few of the concerns and criticisms this document has received. I am changing from we to I because I am speaking only for myself. Primary criticism has been either 1) how do we know this is true/qualification issues or 2) it is a political piece.

The first criticism simply validates one of the main points of the document. This information can be verified and was valid at the time of publication. Most of the time, you were told exactly where you could find it. The complete lack of effort the public has shown to educate themselves about this virus has contributed to the terror it has created. It really shouldn’t matter who wrote it if the information is valid. I am not an epidemiologist, but, for the record, it was reviewed by one and he agreed.

The second criticism I can at least understand. The objective of the paper was not to be political but to recognize the role it plays in behaviors related to the virus. Frankly, I have never been able to successfully explain why we are hearing so much about a virus that doesn’t make most people sick without involving the politics (and I have tried, and that information is also available). However, I may not have done as well as I could have in conveying that. I

And what is laddysites?

ETA: I especially love this one:

quote:

I am not an epidemiologist, but, for the record, it was reviewed by one and he agreed.

I hear he also stayed at a Holiday inn last night.

Well, that's the first person we should all be listening to. I live here and I would never go to a doctor outside of Birmingham.

In my opinion, the information presented in this piece is closer to reality than that which is presented on the nightly news. No, novel viruses are no joke. Yes, we should take great measures to reduce the exposure to the elderly and vulnerable. But I do believe there is a reason why any discussion of this pandemic is associated with political overtones.

When you say good article do you mean one that agrees with your stance on the issue?

Since you clearly have an issue with what was posted, would you mind giving us a specific breakdown of the things this person said that were incorrect?

I'm assuming you mean for him to give legit medical advice from his own personal experience as a doctor right? Considering the article is an editorial from a MD after all. I mean lets listen to the experts and all.
