About 8 years ago I spent 16 hours in OPP for DUI. Got a lawyer, did a one day class and 10 AA meetings before my trial and the judge reduced it to a moving violation.

Never drove drunk again.

Most people will bash you for getting a DUI, because they just never got caught.
I needed to get caught. If I had a DUI for everytime I drove drunk in my life prior, I would have been sentenced to the death penalty.

The whole thing will cost a few dollars and some time, but it won’t turn your life upside down.

Thanks for sharing. Good luck!

ETA : I also took a MAAD class. That will change your mind about driving drunk. Listen to those mother’s stories about losing their kids to drunk drivers. That’ll hit you like a ton of bricks.

Its funny bc here in Africa you can drink and drive all u want and not have to live in fear of the cops, guess there is more freedom here than in the US

I’ve lived in Africa off and on for 10 years. The police are constantly harassing people for money and bribes. None of what you said is true.

So it’s the rookie cops fault you got caught? Use Uber and you avoid this and don’t hurt others.

A mile is plenty enough distance for you to kill someone.

You drank and drove. Rolled the dice and crapped out.

Of all the fail in this story the LEO is not part of it.

So you come here looking for sympathy? Considering the rate of DWI-related deaths, I doubt you will get much sympathy here or anywhere else.

Don’t blame yourself and disparage the officer in the same breath. Be a man and learn from your mistakes.

My mom and aunt were killed by a guy who decided having a few beers after his 4 o’clock shift was okay. So, you get no sympathy from me on any level.

You did the right thing by not blowing. Everybody on the OT is perfect. They just don't make mistakes in life.

I applaud you for what you are doing with a great "The More You Know" message.

Had a similar situation a few years back. Drank two beers at dinner and got pulled over for no fricking reason.

Just don't drink and drive. I know it is hard to do so but when I felt I was actually being responsible, it bit me in the arse

frick that Barney Cop. He should have let you off with a warning.

Went to lunch with some friends. I had a 12 oz Beer, 16 oz Draft Beer and one other 16 oz draft beer.

Now - let's look back at the time when you had the opportunity to exercise some self-restraint, and limit yourself to NO MORE THAN 2 SERVINGS of alcoholic beverages if you're going to be driving immediately afterwards.

Now - you chose to consume 4. (12 ounces of beer = 1 serving). Therefore you chose to drive intoxicated, putting whatever oblivious, innocent drivers at risk with your drunk arse and ~2-ton vehicle barreling down the highway at lunch time.

It sucks but you'll get through it. Happens to the best of us even if some on the OT don't want to admit it. Best advice, knock the 32 hours out doing trash pick up and get the breathalyzer in your car asap so you can have it out sooner.

that is some of the worst advice.

a breathalyzer isnt mandatory. there are other avenues you can take to omit the breathalyzer. Hell even the trash pickup.

My advice is talk to an attorney. Not listen to some bumbling idiot on TD like you.

Will Uber take you on a beer run if you are out of booze?

I have done this actually. Bachelor party and we were back at the condo playing beer pong late night. Ran out, everyone was hammered, so ordered an uber to get more beer. Worked.

don't be so sure about that. im all for you, and i am certainly not criticizing as i too have been in a similar situation, and i sat in court with others that did not blow for the same reason etc as you, and at the end of that session they too were convicted just like i was, except they were suspended for a year vs. my 3 months. same money same charge same everything except for the suspension. i blew, they didn't
