The stepdad isn't an issue because the kids are in college? Are the kids going to all of a sudden disappear? If you're with this woman for the long haul, you're with the kids for the long haul.
To be honest, this seems ultra messy. I don't know you, but usually people in these situations are holding on to something that isn't there for some reason. Figure out that reason.

Seems to me that you're both hanging on to the familiarity of each other...it's easy and comfortable...I dont see a problem as is.
But, I wouldn't go exclusive with her, move in, marry, etc., because she couldn't change long term. It would turn bad and end badly. If the right woman comes along, bail quickly on this arrangement.
