My dad spent 42 months in the 3rd division during WW 2. He got to spend quality time on some Pacific Islands - Peleliu, Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and a few others.

Mine was on Okinawa and it made them changed men for the rest of their lives.
It marked on them so hard it marked on their grandkids.
