The Waffle House at I10 and Walden Road in Beaumont was open this morning. I just assumed they were flooded in from the night before. You couldn't get to that location with a high-water vehicle.
Waffle House and Walmart will be open the day after the end of the world. Both are legendary for their disaster planning. As one FEMA official said "if you go there and Waffle House isn't open then you know its bad".

I'm not sure that's accurate. The top of the spillway is 108' for Addicks. Water doesn't get out unless it is released at the dam until it gets higher than 108'. The natural ground at the end of Addicks is 112'
It's 112' at the west end of Addicks and roughly 108 ft at the north end. The north end is where the water is currently flowing around the dam.
I believe what people are calling the "spillways" are the concrete topped portions of the levee at each end of the reservoirs, which seems to be slightly lower than the other portions of the levee.
But those spillways are above natural ground on both ends at both reservoirs.

That's serious shite. They only come when a city gets scattered, smothered, and covered

This person went through Katrina and the March flood and now every weather event seems like a potential catastrophe. I guess a lot of people have a form of PTSD over that.
I can understand it. I lived through the April 2011 tornado outbreak living in the eastern part of MS at the time with no power and sirens going off every 30 min for 3 days straight. TIgerdroppings on my phone was the only thing keeping me updated on where the tornadoes were. It was not a good feeling and still makes me shiver thinking about it

Both have huge recreation areas in the bottom. Barker alone has a massive shooting range, baseball and softball parks, soccer fields, and passive Park elements. They aren't just a massive brush filled mosquito pit.
Addicks I know has a little league (Bear Creek LL) that has fields there.

Neches River @ Beaumont It is going to blow through that projected height. Dear Lord.
Looking through the elevation maps for Beaumont it looks like most of the residential is at 20'+ elevation, so hopefully there won't be the same backwater impacts as in BR last year, even with the Neches river skyrocketing past 15'.

Anyone know if Orange got it as bad as Beaumont and Port Arthur?

Beaumont Elevation Map
From my amateur eye it also looks like most of Beaumont really isn't dependent on the Neches for drainage. Through the residential areas it looks like there are Bayous that drain straight to Sabine lake and the gulf. No flood gauges on those though.

Truth. The 4 horseman will be destroying the world as Jesus descends down upon us for final judgement and I'll stroll into Waffle House for one last all star breakfast

Got a shite ton of rain. Around 40 inches. My sister lives in little Cypress and had to be boat rescued by her boyfriends dad. It's insane, I live in Louisiana six miles from the state line and got about 22 inches. Towns about 20 to 30 miles west of me got more than double that.
