The so-called "conscience of the Senate"

This was probably meant as a joke but it's actually a documented phenomenon. Working class couples are realizing that it's financially smarter to cohabitate (fka common law marriage) while the female files for single mother welfare benefits and the man continues to work as single with dependent tax filer. It's basically piggy-backing off of the government's inesacpable obligation to provide a safety net for innocent children born to feral ghetto trash who have neither the desire or capability to care for the offspring they recklessly sired.
Also a popular scam with Fundamentalist Mormons. Man is only legally married to one woman but increases his family through sister-wives. Especially when the legally-acknowledged wife can no longer produce children.

Could be that they just have a shitty plan.
Here's the thing... people don't have full choice of their plans. You get what your employer offers you. If you don't have a job, you get what the government offers you.
This isn't because of capitalism. It's because there isn't enough capitalism in the process.

No, actually I’m black. The couple were white and Hispanic. Nice try, though.
Thank you for the clarification, it all makes sense now.

But you can shop around and pay for your own
You do not have to take what the employer offers
You do not have to take what the employer offers

It isnt even insurance, anymore.
They do not underwrite health.
You are rated on your age. And that is it. Everyone is rated together.
My deductible was $250 before ACA.
My out of pocket maximum was $800.
My deductible today is $4000.
My out of pocket maximum is $8000.
Every damn year.
And of course im paying exponentially more for this option.
"Affordable" care my arse. Politicians love to use pretty words which reflect the opposite of the wrath they will lay at their constituents.

Im positive that his employer plan is better than what an individual can obtain in the open market.
My shitty plan is better than the government plans in Georgia.

we have no assistance and i will be stuck paying a $6,000 deductible for labor and delivery, plus another couple grand in doctors appointments
Your child will be much better off than the government assistance ones. Loving, married, hard working parents is priceless.

It depends on the premium you want to pay

It shouldn’t be tied to employment it should be offered across state lines so you can shop the best rates. You get penalized for working at small companies less than x number of employees. When my wife worked for a nationwide company we paid $500 less per month for the same exact fricking plan. It’s infuriating that we pay $1500 a month for a mediocre bcbs plan for a family of five.

You dont have a very good understanding of what the word "better" means.
Lower deductibles cost more.
Higher deductibles cost less.
My wife works in government and her lower deductible plan is significantly more expensive than we pay through my plan (and we pay a shite ton thanks to ACA). The math is pretty simple that my 50,000 employee company has a better plan that what we can "shop" for.

That is a false rumor.
Why would BCBS like people in Arizona better than they like people in Louisiana?
The plans cost different amounts because they include/exclude different things.
It is nothing more than a long, skinny balloon. Squeeze down the coverage in one area and that allows the insurance to pay more in another area. Quid pro quo. This for that. Exclude a coverage in one area, and the premiums are lower (and you hope your doctor's bill isnt in the exclusion).

Well it depends on the context
Do you mean better rates or better coverage?
Regardless, you get what you pay for.

I agree with that.
My point is that work plans are generally going to be better than market plans because they are negotiating large numbers in the contract (insurance companies like large numbers. 2% profit of a big number is more attractive than targeting 2% of a singular policy)
