on top of that, we've decided wife will quit her job, stay home and raise the kids, home school, etc.
Also get better insurance. When Junior was born in 2020, I bet I didn’t come out of pocket a total of $1K when it was all said and don. tax title and license

Yea and their security means less. Once Vlad and his crew bust in they will be begging a country like ours that is not so caring to handle their business and rebuild their mess. There is no free lunch.

I wanna say both our kids were about $500 total out of pocket. I remember paying that before we even had the kids - no shite the accountant at the OBGYN had it all prepared. Paid with a CC and that was it.

The couple probably were high school drop outs.
You stay in school or learn a trade work your behind off and people who were lazy continue to be lazy and get stuff for free

Re: medishare. Have you used it? Know anyone who has? Looking for comments/thoughts on it.

Eh, wouldn’t recommend. It’s not true insurance. I spoke with a guy who has it and he says his ID card says “not insurance” on it.

Someone has to foot the bill for the low reimbursement rates Medicaid and Medicare pay the hospital. Who do you think that is?
The hospitals make it up on private payers.
People want the government to fund and control healthcare. Apparently because the government is so efficient and user friendly in all the other areas it participates.

i will be stuck paying a $6,000 deductible for labor and delivery,
Go talk to the hospitals financial assistance office and ask about the non insurance price. They offered a flat rate for the hospital that ended up being cheaper than going through insurance. I think it was like $2500 and the only stipulation was that I paid it before we went in to deliver.

Know anyone that lives in Europe? That take care of child birthing and the first few months of infancy pretty well. Say what you want about everything else but my friends in Ireland had it super easy. 26 weeks paid and 16 unpaid. Still had same job when she went back to work still making really good money.
Government sponsored healthcare in Ireland is crap, anyone there with the financial means to do so buys their own private health insurance.. As for European healthcare in general, there is a reason that those in Europe that need complicated surgery and can afford it come to the U.S. When Mick Jagger needed a heart valve replacement he headed straight for New York Presbyterian Hospital.

meanwhile, we have no assistance and i will be stuck paying a $6,000 deductible for labor and delivery, plus another couple grand in doctors appointments and who knows what else they decide we should subsidize.
We've done 3 home births for right around $3k each, some reimbursed. You don't have to go to a hospital. Find a midwife.
