Only 9% in 401k? That’s pathetic.

Only 1% to charity? Stingy bastards.

One would assume that in this scenario they both have similar policies.

24k for child care

That's not crazy at all. Two kids at $1k per month each is about what I pay for full time day care. That's the ballpark of what it costs.

It specifically says it's $24K for one kid.

People asking about healthcare. If you are making six-figs, there is a higher probability than not that the company is also paying for your health insurance OR paying a significant amount of it.

I have 90/10 , 35 co pay, 1500 max out of pocket for 70 bucks a month.

Even if it is, it's not unreasonable given the market. You can easily spend $1k per child in NOLA, so I'd expect SF to to cost at least $2k. shite, I know people paying $1k per kid on the northshore.

That might be reasonable for SF... can't say I've ever looked into daycare costs there. I have no idea if that's as inflated as the housing market.

We will be paying 1k/month in Chattanooga. I didn't think that part is outrageous.

Good Lord that is insane! $700k house? $8k a year on vacation. These people have no sense of a budget. I don't really call this a budget. They really are overspending in lots of areas. They could have easily saved over $20,000 a year by cutting back in a few areas.

This article is shite. Let's see a real budget of a real family in the South and see what type of budget they have.

the writer purposely picks one of the most expensive areas in the country to live and then estimates high on all expenses to try and prove a point

basically its a bullshite article

Why are they bad at managing money? After every expense they have for the year, including generous clothing and vacations allowance and funding retirement vehicles, they still have almost $500 left over each month. I would venture to say the majority of people posting in this thread can't say the same.
