“We’re pretty low compared to everybody else, and it’s not some lack of offering testing, it’s just lack of interest,” she said.

Maybe we could put more press releases out or talk about it more on social media, but I don’t think that would necessarily influence anybody anymore than they’re already talking about or doing,” Ricks said. “There’s still that group that just doesn’t think it’s real. I don’t know what you can do at this point to make them believe any differently because it’s become so politicized.”
So wait, what is making this a topic? Has there been a spike in hospitalizations or something? Deaths? What is Livingston's current positivity rate?

Public health experts say lagging testing and a high percentage of positive tests suggest infections are more prevalent than the data suggest.

“They’re above 10% (percent positivity), and they’ve been consistently above 10% for a very long time. It’s not like they suddenly had a burst of infection that’s shown up in their community. It’s a persistent, chronic under-detection.”
No one is getting tested so positivity is high
They are trying to scare people into getting tested

I got tested because work told me to based on being in contact with someone.
I have no issue with that.

One of the folks at work had been tested 4 times saying “it’s a good idea to go get tested every few weeks just in case”.
Yeah, that's dumb.
quote:
If I’m not symptomatic or wasn’t in immediate contact with someone who tested positive then I don’t see any reason why I should.
Exactly. I don't understand why the Advocate is trying to blow this up into some big issue. Well, I understand, but that's a totally different rant. As long as deaths and hospitalizations aren't spiking, but actually falling, then everyone should view that as a win. It means we are moving toward getting back to normal. And I believe that's what we all want.

Or, they just don't want to get tested unless they are actually having symptoms.

Do you get tested for something when you’re sick with common cold symptoms? No you sit at home at get better. There’s no point in getting tested if you’re not sick enough to go to urgent care of the hospital.

I just had a slight sore throat and some coughing. I just self quarantined and got better within 3 days. Stayed away for everyone for the 14 just to be safe.

Basically, Livingston Parish residents are not stupid enough to get tested unless they feel they need to get tested.
Sounds like they are smarter than The Advocate staff.

Obviously everyone in Livingston has already died from COVID.
Seriously though, most of those being tested seem to be teenagers hoping to test positive and stay home for two weeks. I think every kid at our local school has tested positive at some point.

I'll never understand why people insist on keeping the 12th century monk look going once they start balding instead of just shaving your head

Many people out here aren’t scared of it anymore, they think it’s overhyped because the vast majority of people that have covid have very mild symptoms. Most quarantine if they have symptoms and plan on going to the doctor if they have any serious issues, kind of like they’ve done with every other cold/flu.
