Running Cat5e instead of Cat6. Cheap fricks.
Meh, 95% of houses run perfectly fine on cat5. If you need cat6, chances are you should also know how to run it fairly easy. Main problem is that builder installed lines are run incorrectly parallel with the power runs in most homes.

Unreachable cabinets.
The rental I'm in is 2 years old (3/2). There are cabinets that (I'm 5'10") can't reach (horizontal distance, not vertical). My kid stands on the counter from the other side to get stuff.
Guess where the dishwasher is? In the corner of the L shaped counter. Everything needs to be unloaded from the dishwasher onto the counter. Close dishwasher. Put dishes in cabinet. All they had to do was swap the location of the garbage can drawer and the dishwasher, problem completely solved. But no.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, here in South Louisiana I absolutely hate the trend towards ultra modern looking homes. I think we have a beautiful timeless style unique to our area here and a lot of architects and builders are just doing trendy shite. All white houses with black windows, Tudor inspired design... yuck.

Lack of natural light and storage.

If I risk bumping my head on anything when getting holiday decorations out of attic, I ain’t buying it.
And, if it is built on a street name that I have to spell when asked what is my address, for the rest of my life, I ain’t buying it.

too many building materials: siding, stone AND brick?
Too many windows
ornate features on a middle class sized home such as turrets or plantation columns
being able to see the foundation
juliette balconies

I always wonder if this is just laziness because the recent floor plans are available to purchase or something.., Otherwise, I also can't understand why the default in the south isn't a southern style home.

This stone bullshite that’s so prevalent in DFW.

That looks great for people in South Florida. We all have skip trowel stucco on concrete block.

Right now. Most fiber to home ISPs are starting to offer 5 to 10Gbps, in which case you're SOL if you only have Cat5 or Cat5e.
Ten years from now it will be a much larger issue.

I've owned one open concept home. Never again.
It can get noisy, but we have a playroom for the kids go to be kids. Also forces you to keep the kitchen clean, and that’s a good thing.

No its local architects and designers here trying to out do each other and going more and more modern for Instagram clicks.

Before she moved out, my twenty-something daughter and I used to take after-dinner walks in the neighborhood, and look at houses both under construction and existing (there are a lot of tear-downs and newer replacement houses in Old Metairie where I live)
We both abhor:
1. Garages in the front of the house, regardless of which direction they face. On many newer homes it makes it look like the garage is IN the front yard.
2. The overworked look of a white/off-white house exterior with black/dark brown trim. Everyone is doing this:
3. Huge full-story roofs in the front unbroken by dormers or anything. When you are looking straight-on at the front of a house, from rooftop to ground, and more than half of what you see is roof shingles, you are doing something wrong.
Two odd architectural details that REALLY bug the hell out of my daughter for some reason:
1. Extraneous keystones on flat windows and doorways:
2. Quoins (squares which stick out on exterior wall corners). Not so much on brick homes if they are the same brick, but especially on stucco homes and extra-especially when they are painted a different color than the main part of the house:

That's a rather impressive photo collection of some seriously fugly homes.

I agree with most of what you pointed out, but garages in a back alley like they have in parts of DFW are retarded. Makes crime easier, since it normalizes vehicular movement, lights, etc.

I have an unhealthy hatred of painted brick.

I hate having a sink on an island. Put the stovetop on an island. I am much more likely to be cooking and trying watch tv or stirring a roux and talking to people at the countertop then I am to be washing dishes.
