It amazes me how the hell these entitled kids borrow money for school, then blame the school or economy for their not finding jobs in the Studies of General things or six figure salaries for their Philosphy wisdom.

What?

I’m saying almost everyone saying you don’t need a college education is themselves college educated and Ian making plans for their children to get a college education too. How does that make me a pussy?

ETA: I’m an idiot

I was mocking the idiot who said that earlier

I agree with you - it's always everyone else and their kids who need to get into the blue collar world.

I'm glad that I went to college when it was comparatively cheap.

Same here. Graduated in 1983, and I only owed a little over $1000.00. I usually paid off everything I had borrowed by working construction jobs every summer.

1. If you have a degree in an in-demand field of study like computer science or engineering, you’ll have no problem repaying your loans. If your degree is in gender fluidity, then get fricked. Should have thought that one out a little more.

2. You signed the loan papers, you pay it back. It’s no one else’s problem. YOU. Not John Taxpayer. YOU.

Peel back the layers on that a little more - these are 16 - 18 year olds making these life decisions. Think back to when you were that age; how fricking stupid were you? I know I was a mouth breathing idiot who thought he knew how the world worked, & if it wasn't for amazing parents I would have probably fricked myself more times than I can recall.

My point is half of these dumb fricks have no clue what they are getting into, & yet they are legally allowed to frick themselves for a huge portion of their lives. How fricked up of a system is that?

if they forgive student loans and i'm not given a check for what i've already paid off, this will probably be the thing that makes me snap

smart enough to go to the shitty, cheap local school instead of a school more suited for my talents (due to costs)

then i repeated the process again with law school

They are in debt and poor

last 30 years, kids have been told they should all go to college. Advanced degrees have more than doubled the last 20 years diluting the work force pool and increasing student loan debt substantially.

And how do you for your narrative into the fact that only 32% of Americans hold a bachelor's degree or higher?

I ended the conversation with this though, I’m doing everything possible to make sure all my kids go to college, my coworkers both sent all of their kids through college, and the refining customer had his kids at private colleges. We were all saying everyone else’s kids needed to go to trade school, but mine still needed to go to college.

When I say more people need to go to trade school I’m talking about kids from families that aren’t going to pay for college. The ones that will have to go into lots of debt to get a degree. I want mine in college but I’ll also pay for 100% of the cost to make that happen.

I would surmise that those people never should have attended college in the first place, & the situation they are in is an indirect result of an extreme decrease in acceptance standards.

That's part of the US culture though. For older teenagers to still be idiots. Most other places, that's when students are well into a specific type of program.

For instance, specialized curriculum should start after freshman year of high school. And I'm not just talk about one or two electives. No reason some kids should be taking math classes beyond Alg 2 or science classes like physics. Send them to learn personal finance and some microsoft applications, work-study and shite like that. Let others take more sciences and labs instead of 4 years of english and PE. English can easily be mastered by 10th grade, but the material gets so damn spread out in those elementary and middle school years. It shouldn't take a kid 5 years to learn the difference between a noun and a verb, but I know high school teachers still "testing" on that basic principle.

This is too general. I know PAs who had over 100k in debt but got it paid off easily within 7-8 years and continue to make bank. That's worth it.
