Anything older than that and I am depending on someone else's opinion based on data.

Do you not believe your parents when they tell you how old they are? Anything past that is hearsay.

Do you believe 6,000-10,000 years?

There are countless geological processes that point to an ancient Earth.

And I agree completely with whoever talked about evolution contradicting Original Sin and the purpose for Jesus. You can’t blame Man for death and suffering if it existed before we got here.

Here’s an analogy I have used before: Let’s say you (representing Man) are on a cruise ship. You get drunk and fall overboard. A Good Sumaritan (Jesus) dives in and saves you from drowning. In that scenario, you owe the Sumaritan your gratitude. He rescued you from a mistake.

But what if you were just walking along the ship and someone pushed you overboard and would not save you until you begged for help? Would that person really deserve your gratitude? You wouldn’t have been in that situation if the person hadn’t put you there.

The second scenario is how little sense Christianity makes when evolution is considered. We did not create a difficult world. We were placed in it and are supposed to beg our way out of it.

Most of the things that are difficult about this world (extreme weather, disease, birth defects, etc.) would still ravage us if we were all perfect saints going back to the first human.

Man did not curse the Earth. It was already a bitch place to survive when we got here and that contradicts the message of Original Sin.

But people will twist Scripture into a pretzel to try to maintain their beliefs because they just can’t accept mortality.

I'm a geologist so it was common for me to think of time scales in the tens of millions of years time frame. And I was always interested in Cambrian fauna which came about 540 million years ago. Isotope geochemistry gives us ages at least 4.325 billion years ago. And the earth is a bit older than that. Remember man (Homo sapiens) has been on earth for only about a million years.

The oldest rocks found are in Australia and have been dated to over 4 billion years ago using the radioactive decay of uranium

This is kind of my point.
Did you do the testing with the radioactive decay of uranium or did you at least take the results and do the math yourself or do you just believe someone else's test?

This whole "do your own research" thing is starting to jump the shark

right?

Did you actually do the trig and math to find the distance to the sun or did you just take someone's word for it.

Did you actually do the physics to determine the speed of light or are you just taking someone's word for it?

And more so, why else are primates still on planet Earth and why didn't they evolve with humans if this wasn't true?

You need help bro! 10,000 years? WTF Let me guess...it took 6 days to create the universe as well and then a day of rest.

No idea.

I will ask this. At what point does this time frame start? At what point does the earth become the earth?

You remind me of a college friend who was a "bible is literal" and when i asked him about dinosaurs and fossils he said god put them here to test our faith.

It kills me seeing people say for certain how old the earth is when we haven’t even had semi-accurate weather records for 150 years yet

And we still aren’t even close to fully understanding gravity.

You should take any “scientific fact” that is built on observing the end result and formulating a theory with a grain of salt.
