As a parent of an 18 year old girl, this is why I hope that we taught her to critically assess every dumbass that comes sniffing around. I'm sure the guy in that pic convinced the girl that everything would be fine, when she should have listened to her own head and got out of there.

You just knew there would be looting and such. It was just a matter of time

I’m curious to see if there are reports of looters and other tomfoolery in the coming days. It is my hope there is no such behavior and something all Americans can learn from this disaster.

PsychTiger, can you comment on the tides in Charleston recently? I've heard it's been very high.
I just got an offer on my house so I'm hoping it will still be dry in a few days after some storm surge tide cycles.

Dorian could have easily gone over West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale and hovered like it did. I bet everyone that lives there lost about 10 years off their life from anxiety. That’s like watching an 18-wheeler coming right at you and then turn at the last second.
Living in west palm I can tell you people here were nervous AF. The way that eye looked was ominous.
I anticipate that people here will be donating generously to Bahama relief after dodging that bullet. There are many people here thinking, to borrow one of our board cliches, “it could have been us”

This is a map of Charleston DOT traffic cams. If you zoom in there are more cams. I don't know if it will have what you want, but they are live cams. The ones on the beach seem to be down.

Feeling very thankful here in Ocala. Never felt we were in a dangerous situation (did get a bit concerned when it was at 185) but definitely thought we would have some time with no power. We have lots of friends on the coast. Glad everyone in Florida has weathered it well and hope the same for Georgia and the Carolinas. I’ve lived in Hilton Head and Southport, NC. Feel for everyone still waiting.

Thanks.
As far as I can tell, the core of Dorian is just off shore this morning. Hopefully for Jacksonville and southern Georgia it stays that way.
The Carolinas aren't likely to get as lucky.

Yeah, I think they've restricted access to the barrier island towns to residents only. I still don't think many people are going to leave because this is the 3rd year in a row they've called for a mandatory evac and people are fatigued by that.

Sounds like gangs heading to nicer and more intact houses stealing contents and forcing out the residents (if they were still there).
Now granted, twitter/FB can certainly exaggerate things. But the posts are out there. The blame seems to be on Haitian illegals. I’ve been to enough islands to know that the locals/natives do hate them.

I would imagine the gangs are mobilizing from all over and wreaking havoc with no police presence there. What an absolute nightmare.

I'm just hoping the models stay solid. Dorian already moved a bit west enough to where we're going to get some wind/rain here in Cola. Any more west and Charleston/Dirty Myrtle are going to get hammered pretty hard.

Poor Hunting Island is going to be eroded all to hell again. I'm glad I was able to camp there a few years ago before this string of close passing hurricanes happened. It really is a truly beautiful place.

They should, at least low lying areas.
Dorian is going to be pushing a healthy surge with him, more than would typically be expected from a grazing Cat 1/2.

That's a Royal Marines problem.

Yeah, spending the night at a Holiday Inn in the northern Charleston suburbs probably wouldn't be a bad idea if your house is south of I-526 in Charleston.

I understand that completely. But by proxy we can cut them down in a day.
The Brits are arguing over whether they should have someone else tell them how to run their own country atm.

They arrive on MONDAY but I agree we should not spend any effort except to evacuate US citizens.

The west side of hurricanes running along the east coast tend to be pretty nasty. Levi explained it well last night, relatively cooler air over land (relative being the key word) and getting warm air running over it off the hurricane.
For Cola, as long as the rain doesn't get too heavy, it shouldn't be too big of a deal. Might lose power if you get steady TS winds. The big impacts are going to be coastal, at least with the modeling now showing the core actually impacting the SC coast.

Oh I'm not worried. I was just pointing out how one small shift had us going from light wind/no rain to close to TS-force winds and lots of rain. I don't remember any of the others storms the past few years having that sharp of a differentiation between getting nothing and experiencing heavy rain/wind.

Looks like the eye is about to close in to the west
