"Black Zone" near chemical plant in Port Arthur (maybe Crosby?) and National Guard is keeping everyone out?
Sounds crazy
(Heard on Zello)
ETA - It was in Crosby which is apparently nowhere near Port Arthur

I'm leaving in the morning to go to downtown Houston to volunteer. We're going to be there through Monday passing out supplies then gutting homes.

Yeah man that's Crosby. Has a leak yesterday and no power to cool down whatever it is they need to cool down.

I have a truck, but no working boat. But I do have a 16' enclosed trailer. What would be the best way to help out? I can use the trailer to bring supplies from BR. I can also cook jambalaya for rescuers or those being saved. I could also be a deckhand. Just need to know where to direct the help. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try submitting your information to the hurricaneharveyrescue.com page. They have a rescuer form and you can select "no boat".
Rescuer Signup
It's a good place to start, and maybe someone there can inform you more about drop off points for supplies. I'm sure cooking jambalaya would be welcomed at some of the drop off points, so mention that too! You can give them all the info from your post in the "comments" section.

Tell them to try the Montagne Center. I saw that they opened it today for shelter.
Also:
Beaumont Elks Lodge is an option.

No prob. The Salvation Army shelter is probably a safe bet. I saw earlier that not a lot of people had gone there yet (so probably availability), but that might have changed. Good luck to them!

Did the Beaumont Civic Center take on water from the Neches? When I dropped off supplies this afternoon it was fine?!?!
Posted on 8/30/17 at 10:38 pm to When in Rome
Bob Bowers in PA took on water.
*Also, I picked up someone who was evacuated to the Methodist church in Vidor earlier today. They had no power and were rationing food. I wouldn't recommend going there if you could help it.

I'm heading to Houston from Baton Rouge in the morning. Will we be able to get there on I-10 or will we have to detour off near Beaumont???
Posted on 8/31/17 at 12:22 am to supadave3
You'll definitely have to detour. Still closed west of Beaumont.
Posted on 8/31/17 at 12:52 am to When in Rome
That's what I figured. We're going to West Houston so we'll have to loop around the city I guess. No telling what kind of route we're going to have to take. Won't know until we get there, I guess.
