Am I the only one shocked to see those temps in Georgia? Upper 50s and low 60s. That's cold for September. I thought tropical systems brought the hot muggy airmass up with them. How is it so cold?

Two friends that live in St Martin finally got out via a cruise ship yesterday. They said the island is being taken over with gangs and there is no law inforcment present, or very little. It's going to be a long time until thT island recovers.

Friend in Marco island is fine.

Friend in Naples is fine.

In some cases it could be a single transmission line or substation that went down. I don't remember the details exactly, but with Gustav some service was voluntarily cut off and was able to be powered on within 36 hours. They restored a large number really quickly.

FPL has already restored power to 636,000 customers, including my friends in Cape Coral. They're pretty happy this morning.

It's a big part of the quick post tropical transition of Irma imo. Typical contential lows get their drive from cooler contential air on one side and warm might air on the other. The steering feature is funneling some cool dry air in to her north and accelerating the trasition.

Feels great to me. I sat out on my deck and drank a cup of coffee, enjoying the temperature.

tornado risk today for most of Georgia

Thought that wasn't really the case based on the warnings we've received thus far.

Risk, nothing certain. It's above my pay grade to suggest just where these will pop up. Just worth being aware of as all this energy spins out.

Makes sense. And hopefully makes the power loss easier to deal with. It was ok even here in houston without power for 2 days with temps 70-74.

itting at home with a 3 year old and 1 year old. Burned a PTO day because daycare is cancelled. It's slightly breezy.

The Wednesday of Harvey they cancelled schools here, I considered putting sun block on my kids after they were outside about 5 hours.

Cancelled schools and closed our office here in Bham today. Crazy. It's barely even raining.....

The governor declared a state of emergency. No administrator wants to be the person that kept their schools in session during a declared state of emergency only to have a weather-related incident happen.

I was suprised because i thought irma was headed west . My wife woke me up to say there was a small drip in one of the rooms. I opened the door to check the weather about 2 am and had it ripped out of my hand. I was like dam i thought Matthew was supposed to have been worse last year with the winds. The water rose the fastest i have ever seen. I guess i will need to conserve my generator because i'm not sure how longer power will be out . Could be days. Not sure how many other florida peeps have checked in with the power outages so widesprea

Power should come back on today here in Neptune Beach. Crews are out assessing amd the winds are slowly dissipating a little.

Areas of Jacksonville proper along the St. Johns river and its creeks are experiencing severe flooding. Swiftboat rescues going down in the Black Creek area (prone to massive flooding)

It is a mess down in St. Marteen. I have a friend in medical school over there. His sister is posting that there are looters all over the island and the local govt has been bullshitting them on how to get off the island.

Everyone around us (Shelby Co.) stayed home today and I'm going to guess they'll be home again tomorrow (schools are closed here tomorrow too). Wind is starting to pick up a bit here.

Everything I read and see makes me think that St. Maarten is hell right now. It will be years before any sense of normalcy returns. There are a lot of videos of looters all over the island. Really sad.
