I am in Jackson County, 220+ miles west of Jacksonville, and have been without power since this morning. It really has hit about 80% of the state.
Doesn't look bad on radar but we are still getting rain and wind enough that trees are still falling.

Did the wind and surge cause any damages to bridges south of Naples

Slackster, is Lee organizing or is it falling apart. Haven't heard any mention of it in a few days.

Yeah I'm in Shelby county as well. Winds picking up a bit, I'm glad I got all those dead trees cut down last week.

Everything I read and see makes me think that St. Maarten is hell right now. It will be years before any sense of normalcy returns. There are a lot of videos of looters all over the island. Really sad.

They are legit worried. His dad is an attorney thank god and was able to get in contact with some congressman to try and help out. They are legit stuck over there with other American med students
This is why our government has paratroopers. They could be there in a few hours and are completely self sustaining for a while. No runway needed. They would get this straight in no time.

I have some family in Miami that had some mild flooding at their house. Don't think it's anything too bad.
It feels like Florida dodged a bullet considering what Irma was just a few days ago. Sure, there's some destruction but it could have been much worse. Thankfully no loss of life that I'm aware of. Thank God for Cuba.

Anyone know what's going on with Jose? Haven't seen him mentioned in a couple of days.

Last I saw, Jose posed no risk to the US.

Weather Channel showed Jose doing a complete loop, then tracking back west but then going north east and missing the east coast

Or you know, helicopters.

I imagine so many of those buildings in the Caribbean and the islands probably aren't built to code like in America

Thanks. Don't ever remember a 'cane doing that.

FPL has already restored power to 636,000 customers, including my friends in Cape Coral. They're pretty happy this morning.
Linemen for power companies go largely unappreciated in these events IMO.
They get out there working in dangerous conditions on dangerous equipment and restore power amazingly fast. They deserve as much praise as search and rescue and law enforcement IMO.

I figured a lot of the resorts in St. Maarten would've fared better than they did but they also got Irma at max strength so there's nothing they could really do. Compare that to St. Barths, which is a 10 minute plane ride and also got the eye. Much more money on that island. They got a lot of damage but most of the structures survived.

Ummm... You do realize that particular island is 1200 miles from Miami right? Where are you going to launch your extremely long range helicopters that don't currently exist from? In addition every place close that can provide support is probably damaged.

It is a mess down in St. Marteen. I have a friend in medical school over there. His sister is posting that there are looters all over the island and the local govt has been bullshitting them on how to get off the island.
USAF is evacuating US citizens via C-130's and carnival cruise line is evacing people as well. I had two friends get out yesterday. Tell them to get out now. It's going to get worse before it gets better.
