If I remember correctly, at the bottom water temperatures can almost reach freezing but it doesn’t freeze due to pressure at those depths
Water is a really weird substance. So the water at the bottom of the Gulf is roughly , 4 degrees C. That is the temperature water reaches its highest density.
Your post is correct about upwelling but I think this is an interesting sidebar of info.

The 06Z GFS is nothing more than a couple rainmakers across the gulf. Hopefully this is a good trend.
It’s been showing it as a pretty weak system the last couple days, maybe a Cat 1. Current models are trending in a better direction. But who knows

It looks like models might be trending towards an unfavorable upper-level pattern across the Northern Gulf. This would result in the system getting sheared out, which would fit with Climo.

That's 39.2 degrees F, for all of the Americans in here.

We got a 7,000 miles of coastline versus Floridas 9,000 miles and since 2020 we got the same amount of hurricanes in Louisiana that Florida has. Gtfo with that crap. When I said east I meant east of the US before it even forms.

And honestly Francine was a Cat 1 and a weakening storm at that
It was a Cat 2 right at landfall, how is that weakening?

While not important right now, long term this storm might have just given Harris the election. North Carolina is going to go Harris now. Western NC was where Trump needed the large turnout and would have gotten it. Some of his supporters now are dead, many of his supporters are now homeless. No doubt very few of his supporters in Western NC care about the election right now.
History always shows that after natural disasters, election turnout plummets in the affected areas. Polling places in Western NC are probably damaged or destroyed. Western NC will probably be lucky to get 50% election turnout.
Honestly NC, if possible, should delay their elections and only host the Presidential election if it comes down to them. There's no way they can hold a fair election in what, 6 weeks?

Now the latest gfs run showing slightly more organized development

Exactly! Francine was a Cat 2 at landfall ; strengthening at the last minute!
Thankfully she was not as strong as her angry; larger Aunt Helene with massive storm surge + lower millibars.
However Boots-on-the-Ground near the Eye are still wondering WHERE the 140 mph winds were?? Highest Gust 100?? Even Francine recorded a wind gust of 105mph at Eugene Island LA.
