He served, as did many, many others. He should get credit for that.
His last couple of years in congress basically voting against the American people is where I have an issue with him.
Not his service time.

So we have to honor our troops, but if a POW war vet dies then we can't give him too much respect?
All this shite confuses me.
Someone kneels during the national anthem and they are hated because people claim they are disrespecting the military.
Someone who was in the military, was a POW for 5.5 years, served as US senator for over 30 years gets a little respect and the same people who get pissed about people kneeling for the flag is furious because they are giving this person a little respect.
Why is this even a thing?

Because people are really dumb and if you get them focused on silly pointless shite like this then you can rob them blind where they ain't looking.
Bread and circuses.

The dude was in the Hanoi Hilton for goodness sakes. You wouldn’t have lasted an hour in there. I liked him as a senator for a long time, until the last few years. Yes he was a hero, and for the majority of his political life a good senator.

It’s a shame no one will say these things about you when you die.
They won’t say these things not because you were a good person, but because you are so insignificant that no one will even notice your passing.
You are a sad, sad, little man and I truly pity you.

I know that all acts medals for valor are awarded for are not equal. Some deserve a higher award, some a lesser award, and probably some deserve no award at all. However, McCain was awarded a DFC for continuing his bomb run after being hit by a SAM. Maybe he knew he was going down whether he pulled off or not. Maybe the award was inflated because his daddy was an admiral. But the guy carried on his mission and bombed the power plant. That took some balls.
McCain was awarded a Silver Star for his time as a POW. Maybe all POWs got a minimum of a Silver Star for their time behind bars. I don't know. I do know some got higher awards, including the Medal of Honor, like James Stockdale. Jeremiah Denton was awarded the Navy Cross for actions as a POW.
IMO, if a guy spends 5-1/2 years as a POW and is awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Silver Star, I think it's fair to call him a war hero.

Was he voting against the American people or your personal preferences? There's a difference between the two.
