Or idk some kind of tag they’d see at TSA that shows you are allowed. It wouldn’t be difficult to figure out and you definitely wouldn’t have to pay at the gate. Have it pop up on the screen or something.
It’s just about getting the people who have no business carrying on bags and only do it due to cost to start checking them. Realistically, the groups of people on vacation only carry on because of cost. I’m sure many of them would accept the risk of luggage issues to not have to lug around their kids plus all their luggage. And most of the rest of us don’t want to be around all of their stuff either.
But at $30 average per checked bag, there’s no incentive for these people to check their crap. And I don’t blame them.
Seems like if I (the airline) had my employees begging and pleading for people to courtesy check their bags on every flight, I’d consider swapping the fee around.

I feel the same way about carry on luggage. I hate those dummies.

I've never had my bag lost, but I have sat down in the cellar of Miami airport for 2+ hours (from 11pm to 1am no less) waiting for a checked bag when I had carried, and they told me there was no room, made me check, then there was room.
That sucks. I can't remember who it is, I think Delta, that now has a policy that from when you step off your plane, you will have your bag within 15 minutes (or at least it will be on the carousel). If you take longer to get there, whatever. If it is not there, they will give you rewards points or something. My Dad has done it a couple times. Just starts a timer when he steps off the plane. Once 15 minutes hits, if he doesn't see his bag on the carousel, emails them with the flight info and usually within a few minutes he had his credit or whatever he got.

the trick is being able to pack correctly, I can get a week's worth of clothing plus toiletries in a rollerboard with no problem
Definitely. One sucky part of being a woman. Especially traveling for work when you have no choice but to pack heels and your full spread of makeup. Takes up so much space.
Although I’ve started re-wearing work outfits on trips.

Yep. I've done multiple 10-12 day Europe trips with just a carry-on bag and a small backpack. It is the best way to go, especially if you end up hopping between countries.

this
women put too much thought into caring what other people will think of their outfit, and packing for multiple contingencies for the same scenario when not many people give a shite or even notice what they are wearing, or would remember it if they saw them later, just isn't that important, everyone needs to learn how to pack/travel more efficiently

Yeah. I think a lot of people are afraid to go a week without all their toiletries.
I just discovered these. It’s these tiny little towelettes that are dry. You get them wet under running water and they foam up with face wash. Then rinse and toss. Eliminates like 5 items you’d normally pack. And they’re so small you could fit them into your wallet.

Not sure how that would work with SW since there are no assigned seats. It would seem to be easier with assigned seats by sending those with seats in the back through the rear doors. With no assigned seats, I can see a traffic jam trying to get to the seats they want.
They'd probably force it via boarding zones. It's in the testing phase apparently

Opting to board or deplane through the back means you may be going up (or down) a set of stairs and walking on the tarmac outside. If you have trouble with stairs or chose to bring heavy carryons, you may want to board in the front of the plane through the jetbridge as you normally would. (You can also check your bag for free* if you’d rather we do the heavy-lifting!)

Preboard Passengers will continue to use the jetbridge as you normally would. As always, we have open seating at Southwest® so you’re free to sit wherever once you board.
But if it does end up working, I could see dual jet bridges becoming a thing

My bigger question is where the hell are these people going that there isn't a a CVS or something? I get having some essential things, I have to bring contacts and one small thing of solution, but otherwise I get any additional solution or stuff when i'm there.

If I'm having to waste time to go to a CVS, that be a reason to check my bag.

By far the worse of the domestic airlines
How are they so far behind on WiFi/entertainment options?

You clearly don’t know any women with skincare routines. They don’t sell my stuff at CVS.
My skin is pretty well behaved and I don’t break out, but there are people out there who’d wake up with cystic acne the size of golf balls if they went a week without their products.

Sounds like being a prisoner to the makeup and skin care industry

Well clearly this is being hyperbolic, but if someone clearly has that type of medical need, have a doctor write them a prescription. Then it won't count against the liquids rule.

good thinking, wife really doesn't wear makeup, minimal if at all, we went on a trip last week and I noticed she had something like that, when we first met and went on a trip she shows up with everything but a steamer trunk and enough gear to go on a world wide cruise for a weekend trip, I've got her trained for peak streamlined efficiency now
