Gucci Envy if you can still find a bottle. My dad wore it to church and when he went out with my mom. Every other time it was old spice after shave.
If you want a more modern fougere try Invasion Barbare, Prada Luna Rossa Carbon, Creed Viking, or At The Barber's.

Anyone here have up to date thoughts on men do's and don'ts with cologne(s) and maybe mention some of their new favorites now, or ones they still wear in a pinch and don't give a damn what others think?
Ralph Lauren Blue- available a lot of places, including most Wal Marts. Smells fresh cucumber and water. It’s sort of in that “gateway scent that smells good enough” category. People who are really into cologne will generally not dislike it. It’s the best of the Ralph Lauren scents, but RL isn’t particularly thought of as a great cologne maker. This one is good, though, and worth a sniff. It’s very light and summery. You’ll get about 4 hours out of a squirt.
Speaking of Ralph Lauren, their original cologne comes in a green bottle with a gold label. It smells like 1980. I am not enough of a man to wear it. If you want an “old school” cologne that someone will pick up from across the room that is very heavy and smells mostly like tobacco, wood, and spices, this one is also cheap, available, and close to if not a classic.
Now, what I associate with the smell of the cologne counter in Dillards is Bleu de Chanel. It smells “heavy” and “formal” enough to wear at night, on a date, at a business dinner but somehow fruity and light enough to wear on a daily basis. The price is just about right. It may feel a little bit on the expensive side, but it’s one of my absolute favorites. It’s fresh enough to wear in spring/summer, it’s warm enough to wear in the fall. I like Polo Blue. But I love Chanel’s “blue” scent.
Chanel has a few others that are popular- platinum egoist gets picked a lot. I’m just not a fan. I got sucked in after smelling Allure Homme Sport once. I really liked it at first, but it tends to make me feel like I smell like one of those orange popsicles with ice cream in the middle made into a diet version, melted, and mixed into baby powder. It’s ok for a summer afternoon and for most days in the office, but I would feel almost silly in it at a nice dinner.
Savauge by Dior isn’t terribly priced. It’s pretty popular and generally agreed to be on the “good” list. I find it smells a little synthetic or there’s something in there I just don’t like.
Then there’s a little company called Creed. So Bleu de Chanel may be my favorite scent, but there are probably 4 Creed scents I like that are very near on par with it
1) Aventus. It smells like a smoky/scotchy pineapple. It lasts all day. When I wear it, I’ll often have people stop me and ask me what it is. I’ve never smelled anything else like it, and it’s unique in a very good way. I’m probably not giving it enough credit with my description, but I can’t find better words. It’s another one of those “wear it absolutely anywhere any time of day or year” scents
2) virgin island water- admittedly a warmer scent but nice enough for evening. It smells like coconuts and limes in the most pleasant way possible. Aventus feels like it lasts 6-12 hours per spray (and so does the Chanel Blue, to be fair). The most disappointing thing about this one is that between 2 and 4 hours later, I don’t notice it anymore. This could be a good thing in some settings
3) green Irish tweed. There’s never been a more fitting name for a scent. Heavy on the vetiver. Long-lasting. Really another year-rounder and any time of day one. Really unique as well, but in a slightly less-universally appealing way. If someone told me they didn’t love it, I’d believe them. But it very much smells like fresh outdoor grass and that distinctly special scent from when an out-of-towner has traveled in their car for an hour or more with the air on full-blast to come visit you, and you can feel the cold pouring off of them. Perhaps my childhood was weird and I should seek therapy.
4) Viking. It smells warm like a fire but without the smoke. There seems to be a fair amount of wood in it. There is quite a bit of spice in it as well. Very pleasant. Better suited for winter months than a hot summer day
Is there a place I should send my man card to?

They discontinued their “cooling blue” scent about 10y ago. I strongly considered stocking up on it. It was my favorite aftershave of all time. I like it significantly better than the traditional green bottle, but that is my go-to aftershave even still.

I'll vouch for Chanel Allure. I've been wearing it for 15 or so years now

Lagerfeld made the panties drop in the '80s. I never wore it, too sweet for my tastes, but I knew girls who suggested it.
