A python breeding facility was destroyed during Andruw right next to Everglades National Park, hundreds of pythons were released into the park. Because it's a national park, hunting and capturing of pythons was forbidden which led to the original population boom. Sure people here and there release their unwanted pets out into the wild but that'd hardly be enough for the 100,000+ pythons the Everglades has today.

She almost certainly died before being swallowed whole.
Probably asphyxiated by the python, but I guess there's a chance it was something like a heart attack.

Also, other than the python population ruining the mammal population, it sounds pretty badass that we've got a little homegrown Africa going on in there.

It's gonna take something more innovative than hunting in Florida. Hopefully science can figure out a plan to mass sterilize or somesuch, minimizing residual damage.
