As opposed to his older, less efficient gas guzzling vehicle?

Test your theory and get quotes from his competitors. If they are lower, switch.

It's not like lawn services is a highly specialized business. Even in smaller towns there are plenty of options.

I missed this gem. Raising rates when your costs are rising is a "stupid business decision"

Got an email from a dealer this morning wanting me to buy a 2021 GMC 250 AT4 for $101,500.

What? What's your point? The costs of fuel have risen...and will cost him more to provide lawn services. What does his truck purchase matter?

You're not wrong, but everyone has to adjust. All the 15% increase equates to is the lawn guy maintaining his current lifestyle.

If costs are rising, and you are charging your customers more because of it, then buying an exorbitantly priced vehicle that isn't required for doing your job is dumb. I don't know what else to tell you, man.

Fuel went up by a dollar(ish). How many gallons does it take to cut your lawn? Most lawns take 1 gallon or less. A nice neighborhood, 500k plus houses, you can do 7 plus lawns without filling up. Most mowers hold 5 gallons of fuel. There is no way he's using that much fuel. He's just price gouging at this point. You could just pay him in cash and keep the rates like they were.

He has to drive to the neighborhood

Labor costs have gone up

All equipment/maintenance has also gone up

I’m paying frickers $18 an hour to boil crawfish and still can’t find enough people

Thankfully the Mexicans running the traps didn’t get the memo yet

not sure why you are so emotional about this. Its just my opinion. The guy isn't doing anything illegal or even unethical I suppose, I am just saying that his actions make him look like an a-hole, kind of like you do right now

How sad does your life need to be to be envious of the yardman’s truck.
