Wut? That would make you accept your own mortality.

...it didn't. That's why it's important. Because the possibility of dying never crossed my mind.

How about we actually release the statements from Petersons account, for all you / thread people, shall we?
When I realize everything unfolded in 4 freaking minutes, I see plenty of plausible scenarios in which this man wasnt a "pussy coward" for his actions
quote:
Sheriff Israel has indicated that the video may never be released to the public, but then commentated on the very same video to allege that Mr. Peterson took up a position on the west-side of the building, but that Mr. Peterson never went in the building. Sheriff Israel’s statement is, at best, gross oversimplification of the events that transpired. Sheriff Israel’s February 22nd statement conveniently omitted the following facts for the public’s consideration:
quote:
Mr. Peterson initially “received a call of firecrackers — and not gunfire — in the area of the 1200 Building.” ?
In response to the firecracker call Mr. Peterson along “with Security Specialist Kelvin Greenleaf exited the 100 Building and ran north the couple of hundred yards to the 1200 Building.”
quote:
Upon arriving at 1200 Building Mr. Peterson “heard gunshots but believed that those gunshots were originating from outside of any of the buildings on the school campus.”
quote:
BSO trains its officers that in the event of outdoor gunfire one is to seek cover and assessthe situation in order to communicate what one observes to other law enforcement. ?
Consistent with his training, Mr. Peterson “took up a tactical position between the 700-800 buildings corridor/corner.” ?
Mr. Peterson was the first BSO officer to advise BSO dispatch that he heard shots fired. ? Mr. Peterson “initiated a ‘Code Red’ lockdown of the entire school campus.” ?
“The first police officer that arrived on-scene was from the Coral Springs Police Department.” Mr. Peterson informed this Coral Springs Police Officer that he “thought that the shots were coming from outside.” This Coral Springs Police Officer took up a tactical position (approximately twenty yards away from Mr. Peterson) behind a tree with his rifle. ?
“Radio transmissions indicated that there was a gunshot victim in the area of the football field,” which served to confirm Mr. Peterson’s belief “that the shooter, or shooters, were outside.”
quote:
Mr. Peterson had the presence of mind to have the school administrators go to the school’s video room to review the closed-circuit cameras to locate the shooter and the obtain a description for law enforcement. ? Mr. Peterson provided his keys to the Coral Springs SWAT team so that they could enter the 1200 Building. ? Mr. Peterson “provided BSO SWAT Command with handwritten diagrams of the entire Stoneman Douglas campus for student evacuation.”

Well most schools only give you 4 or 5 minutes between classes so you better be able to cross a school in that time.
quote:Highly unlucky that you would be able to case this entire school in five minutes.
yeh, i wouldnt consider going from one building directly to another building "casing the entire school"......

The internet has spoken.

Oh he engaged the shooter? I missed that part. Bc his job was to engage the active fricking shooter.

Eh. Not exactly.
He may have attempted to do his job. But he didn't succeed in doing it.

Are you saying taking position outside and assessing the situation not what he was supposed to do if the shooter was outside?

I'm saying his one and only job was to engage the shooter as quickly as possible.
He never engaged the shooter. He failed at his one and only job.

Bc there is no conversation to have. He was a trained (debatable I guess), armed law enforcement officer stationed at a high school where there was an active shooter. His job is to go toward the sound of gunfire and engage the shooter. He failed at his job. No matter how many lines of text you post, he didn't do the job he was supposed to do.

THANK YOU. FFS I don't see why this is so difficult to comprehend or even debatable. He never once engaged the shooter and was there from the very beginning. He was completely fricking worthless.

I'm saying his one and only job was to engage the shooter as quickly as possible.
Remember, you are going to follow protocol based on what you think is happening at the time
So, if you can link he is supposed to go straight into finding a shooter that is outside potentially off grounds, and not take a tactical position and assess, then please post it and I will say he acted incorrectly even on what his assumptions were

He was in front of the school, in front of the main entrance. The same entrance the other responding officers arrived at in their squad cars.
Look at the picture, the football field where the "outside shooting" may have taken place is on the opposite side as the main entrance.
So again, shooting was nowhere near where the officer was and he hung tight until back up arrived while a shooter shot unarmed people.
ETA: The local city police literally called the sheriff's dept out for not acknowledging the city cops went in first. Basically they said the sheriffs office poon'd out.

During about 8 minutes of panic with kids streaming from the school, I call bullshite on his hindsight fairy tale. The muffled sound of a5.56 being fired indoors is dramatically different than outdoors
If he had said he couldn't tell where the shots were coming from inside, I'd buy that. Acoustics would make that difficult
Posted on 2/26/18 at 3:44 pm to lsupride87
You mean to tell me that in over 4 minutes that this guy was firing off rounds, Peterson never figured out where he was and thought he was outside the entire time?
If you're hearing shots going off for a few minutes you're going to be able to figure out where they're coming from unless you're completely worthless or scared to go toward them.
