My wife went back to school late and knocked out a general studies degree that made her very happy. She was not interested in changing jobs. She just wanted the personal satisfaction of finishing what she started years ago, and that program was the quickest route to a degree based on the credits she had.

Was it "worth it"?

It was for her, even though it cost us several grand and she will likely never earn an extra penny due to having it.

Depends what you want to do.

If you want to join the military as an officer, it’ll work

Trade school is a great option for many and those skills are much in demand. If I had to do it all over again I’d probably consider doing that instead of college. Great pay an and honest living.

Is a Bachelor's in General Studies

I have one of these. Just get a simple business degree. They are both easy to get. I got GS because I had enough random stuff to just gtfo of school.

But a business degree would have been better.

I ended up doing the online construction management program.

The one option of just going to be an electrician isnt a bad idea. Either that or a plumber. There such a shortage of legitimate electricians or plumbers its not even funny.

We do some work with some govt agencies that require a background check to just go in the building. Its amazing that most cant pass it.

There is a ton of work right now you probably dont even need to become a master electrician or plumber. You just need to pass the test and then hire a couple.

I have a general studies degree, but I was in my early 20's and I just wanted any degree. Would be a waste of time and money for you.

You don't have to go into engineering just to get a career path. With my professional background and what I'm currently looking for, something in supply chain might have earned me more interviews.

There are tests called aptitude tests that will show up where you need to focus and your strengths. they are worth the money and will save you a lot of hassle. Obviously, they show you also what you "like".

I have a General Studies degree from LSU. I have a specialized masters from a top 20 university and going back for a MBA in the spring at LSU.

Don’t be like me for the first 7-8 years out of school and think your educational opportunities are over just because you went General Studies.

These people will tell you your life is over if you go G.S, but as long as you find and excel at your niche, you’ll be fine.

Signed,

G.S degree out earning 98% of my age group.

I started college at LSU, and put my collegiate career on hold for a fantastic job opportunity at the age of 22. I progressed through the ranks of a larger small business, and finally topped out at the age of 30.

At 32, I went back to college online at Georgia Southern, and my advisor was able to put together a 100% online program for me so I could graduate with a business degree, after being accepted into their online Interdisciplinary Studies program.

My advice would be to do your research, and find an online program with asynchronous instruction which would allow you to complete your degree with some flexibility, while still being able to work full-time.

The advisors at Georgia Southern are fantastic, and their online program awards you the same degree as the on-campus students. I doubt that many colleges would have taken the time to tailor an online program to the needs of a student.

Just my $0.02

I’m in the same boat. Got a GS degree because it was the closest degree to get outta school.

But I did go back and get an MBA to supplement it. I’m doing pretty well for myself now.

College is just a business at this point that puts out a lot of worthless degrees. (Sociology/psychology/gender studies, and even business degrees are a dime a dozen now)

Depends on how many hours you have left. You can't get a master's degree without a bachelor's. Not having a degree also causes you to get filtered in job searches.

If that is the fastest path to a degree , and it doesn’t require going into debt to finish, I would do it. A four year degree in anything is worth more than no degree, tons of jobs require a degree but no specific major.

I’d say it’s not even worth the work required to get it
