For light, black is the absence of color. For paint or any type of pigment, black is the combination of all colors. So here, black mulch would be all the colors.

I use red mulch. It coordinates well with the accents on my house.

I just re-mulched by flower beds with this:
This is the second season I've used the black mulch. I used to go with pine straw. The black mulch looks much cleaner and is not trashy at all. I've gotten many compliments from neighbors.

Not to my knowledge. I treat it like regular mulch. Program the sprinkler and forget about it.

for me it’s situational. pine straw is great for a lot of reasons. it’s free. it doesn’t lose its color or need to be replaced as often. and it does a far far better job than mulch.

If you use pine straw use crushed pine straw, looks much cleaner, but all pine straw turns gray very quickly and looks like shite, but decomposes well and is better for the health of the flower bed
