Some of you need to learn what a 3rd World country really is. Mexico definitely is not one.

Mexico is pretty much the definition of "2nd World." It's not the hell hole people here make it out to be.

3rd world countries don't look like this:

Reminds me of some Guatemalans I used to work with. A waitress was chewing gum and he asked her what she was eating. She said "Gum." then asked him, "Do y'all have gum in Guatemala?"

He replied: "Yes. We have Imax too."

It is neither third world nor developed. It is a "developing" country.

From what the PC people tell us, if it's not developed it's "developing."
"3rd World" is no longer an acceptable term. That is complete BS though.

Then why did you throw out the term, humanistic geography?
The idea that the use of the word 2nd and 3rd World is pejorative was pushed by Soviets and then Marxist professors in the West in the later half of the last century under the title of radical geography, current professors have decided to change the name of radical geography to humanistic geography, but the theory is considered either marxist, heterodox, critical (feminine, queer, racial).

Wow.

'Human' Geography is a course given to undergrads in any Geography curriculum.

There are no 'marxist' theories in any Human Geography course I have ever taken.

Human Geography does not equal Humanistic Geography. Human Geography is the the study of people. Humanistic Geography is an approach to the study of Geography as a whole that embraces critical theory approaches to Geography. Which I would describe as radical.

What is ironic is that radical geographers who criticized the the use of 1st 2nd and 3rd World and replaced with Developed, Developing and Under Developed now view calling Developing and Under Developed pejorative.

I really don't know why you are trying to derail this thread.

Human Geography is Humanistic Geography.

Yi-Fu Tran has a paper all about Humanistic Geography published in the Annals of the Association of American Geographers. Published in 1976.

-People's relationship with nature, and their geographical behavior with emphasis on place and space

It is the same thing as Human Geography.

From Wiki

quote:

Human geography is a branch of the social sciences that studies the world, its people, communities and cultures[1] with an emphasis on relations of and across space and place.

quote:

As a discipline, human geography is particularly diverse with respect to its methods and theoretical approaches to study.

There is a certain radical sect of the political class world wide that follows a certain pattern with language. Terms such as "affirmative action (preferential treatment/reverse racism), Intellectually disabled (Mentally retarded), 3rd world/undeveloped (shite-hole), progressive (liberal (socialist (communist))), the list goes on.

Create new term for unpopular or negative concept/status which misinterprets/mis-characterizes the original definition.

Push the new term into the mainstream, encourage wide acceptance.

Overtime, the term will lose it's veneer of ambiguity and be commonly understood by society to mean what it was intended to mean.

The term fully assumes the negative meaning it was intended to hide.

Repeat.

Seen as one of the countries with the potential to break out economically after the BRIC countries alongside Indonesia and a couple of others.

But no where near a developed country as we speak
