Uh, no. I've been to some nice, clean remote areas and towns in the Northeast and Midwest. Theres some nice ruralish areas in Washington State, as well.

Moved to Charlotte in 2001.

Love the Asheville area - camping and hiking off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mt. Pisgah is a favorite campground and the views from the rocking chairs at the Pisgah Inn are spectacular.

New Bern, Edenton, Beaufort, Morehead City are favorites when in the mood for the being near the water.

What "classy" rural area did you live in the midwest?

Florence, SC: redneck central shithole... best thing about the town is that it is only an hour from Myrtle Beach

You criticize Florence as being a shithole but at the same time imply praise for Myrtle Beach.

What?

Are classy and trashy your only two options? There's a whole lot of wiggle room in between.

I'd love to live in rural upstate SC. Way more affordable than western NC.

It is a shame that Clemson has to be there.

Yep, or if I want to be a bit closer to civilization, I could live in Travelers Rest and not have to drive too far to be in Greenville.

I worked at the huge Hospital/Rehab center in Greenville that serviced every county east of 95. You get a VERY rural population: lots of uncontrolled diabetes, obesity, people just not taking good care of themselves in some of those little towns. The outer banks are very good surfing for the east coast. The beaches more south that face south like emerald isle aren't bad when you don't have a bunch of 19-21 year old servicemen doing what you'd expect a bunch of pent up young guys to do. Obviously they are young and cutting loose (which they absolutely deserve), but I wouldn't want to have young kids around that(I've seen this probably a couple dozen times when I lived there and went to beaches almost every weekend).

I never said classy but there were quite a few little towns in the midwest that I thought were nice and had nice people with a family friendly atmosphere.

Lanesboro, MN and Galena, IL for example..

Gastonia and Shelby are pretty trashy, but in a flying a confederate flag from the back of the truck while getting a burger at Cookout sort of way, not in a fear for your life/break into your car and steal shite sort of way.

More on a DeRidder level of trashiness than a Lake Providence.
