First and foremost stop taking your wife's meds if they're not prescribed to you. It could inadvertently cause larger issues and dependency.

Find a therapist in your area that specializes in PTSD. You can do a search on Psychology Today (and check to make sure they'll take your insurance). They can refer you to a Psychiatrist to prescribe but they can also supplement with "talk therapy" that will go a long way to helping you process and deal with the PTSD.

Didn't read the rest of the thread, so what I'm saying may have been mentioned already, but Wellbutrin is typically thought of as an activating antidepressant - for the sake of simplicity, I'll point out that it does have an effect on Dopamine re uptake which can be a problem with persons who have or or are prone to anxiety. This is not my primary specialty, but I have to deal with these type of meds not infrequently.

A person I know very well took wellbutrin and it was the only thing that helped the depression at all, but it made the insomnia worse. After several years, she finally discovered Cymbalta. It is helping with the depression and anxiety, and has not caused insomnia.

Adjunct for depression or anxiety plus depression? Yes. For anxiety alone? No, and in fact it might make it worse.

Have you looked into CBD without THC?

Also, L-Theanine supplements are rated very favorably by thousands of reviews on Amazon. You may want to consider this route before going the Rx route.

I still think talking to a doctor is the best first step but these supplements are pretty good

I’ve had other things that worked better, but unlike the others Wellbutrin is virtually free of funky side effects.

I am going through the med combo changes right now. I tried Wellbutrin but it didn’t work for me. My Doc though changes the meds before increasing the dosage which is a bit frustrating. About to look for another one.

It is absolutely an individual thing. Wellbutrin could be the magic bullet for one person, while doing absolutely nothing or even presenting negative side effects for the next. My advice is to see a psychiatrist, just skip your PCP altogether unless your insurance requires a referral. The trial and error can be exhausting. I’ve been on so many anti-depressants over the years that I can’t even remember them all. Prozac is the only one that has been even marginally successful for me, and I still deal with the depression, it’s just not debilitating. I wish you the best. It’s a tough process.

I had a bad reaction to Wellbutrin. Broke me out in hives. Get Latuda. It's mild and doesn't sedate you

Prozac was the best for me also however after 10 years it didn’t seem to be doing the trick any longer. I went to a different Psych and now I am trying everything under the sun. About to just go back to Prozac.

Hey Bud, another 20 year medic here. All these suggestions sound good. I'm a proponent of CBD and lexapro. If you are working for one of the bigger services down here, see if you have access to any sort of employee wellness program, maybe they can steer you in the right direction. Good luck to you and Stay Safe.

Do not take Effexor, can’t stop cold turkey and will make you crazy if you do.... brain zaps, dizziness, nausea, panic

It’s a good one to start with. Hopefully it helps you and you don’t have to venture out to the SSRI’s.

People will probably jump on me for saying this, but I don’t think it’s as potent or altering, for lack of a better words, as the SSRI’s. This is just my opinion, of course.

This. It’s a good safe one to start with. Try and avoid SSRIs if you can. And get all your fricking in now cause it will lower your desires after a few months.
