Dead on Iwo Jima
US Casualties 6,836
IJA Casualties 18,375
Total Dead 25,211
Over 8 square miles
25,211/8 = 3,151 dead per square mile
One square mile has 5,280 feet x 5,280 feet = 27,878,400 sq feet
27,878,400 sq ft / 3,151 dead per square mile
= 8,847 square feet per corpse.
Less than 5 corpses per acre on average.

That's a literal carpet of bodies across the surface of the island.

And all corpsmen are Navy. Some are attached to Marine units

Some Naval Academy Graduates are assigned to the Marines and become Marines if you will. There isn’t a dedicated Marine service academy.

quote:I was a Corpsman. Very little you can educate me on that subject. Corpsman are the only United States personnel afforded the option to wear two different branch's uniform. The Hospital Corps is the ONLY enlisted Corp in the Navy. Corpsman can be an x-ray tech, Fleet Marine Force, or a Navy SEAL. Marcus Littrell was a Corpsman.

The Army had a Hospital Corp but it was renamed as Enlisted Medial Corp
The Navy ones are called Navy Corpsman or Corpsman. Army is Army Medic or Medic.

Here's another fact for you to chew on, the Hospital Corp takes the same oath as every other military servicemember, but also takes a pledge. 23 Corpsman have received the Congressional Medal of Honor. A large number were posthumously.
