Do you know anyone else there? Find white people fast and you’ll be good. They typical hate White Americans looking to move there.

Just got back from vaca there. Oahu is crazy populated. Traffic sucks, I mean worse than BR sucks. Avg home is $750k - 1mill. Avg home size about 1200 sqft.

That being said it is an absolutely amazing and beutiful State.

I lived on Maui for a year, contract position. I had the option to stay longer but I declined.

Two reasons:

1. You are stuck on an island 24/7. It's nice to visit but that's it.
2. Cost of Living is outrageous and combined with #1 above, it wasn't work it to me.

Couple things:

Island fever is a real thing. There is much to do but it usually involves tourists. You are stuck on the island and very expensive to travel back to the states to see friends, etc. They wont come see you because its too expensive.

Natives are extremely territorial when it comes to "main landers" coming to the islands to take their jobs. They dont mind tourists but they hate others moving to "their" islands.

I live north of Honolulu in fort Shafter. I love it. traffic sucks but the beaches and hikes are world class. Just stay away from the west side if you don't get robbed. You have lanikai and Kailua beaches on the south east which are world class and then north shore has great beaches in sunset beach and Waimea Bay. Honolulu isn't a bad city either, lots of Asians though lol. I love it here ad the weather is awesome 365 days a year.

Thanks for the info. Question: How difficult is it to watch NFL and CFB games? Particularly LSU and Saints.

I've never been to the islands and I'm looking for some knowledge.

I know it's expensive, but it comes with a COLA uplift on top of the salary. I'm not married and have very little family, so the move is "easier" for me than some. I'm under the impression that this is an opportunity that shouldn't be passed up. Am I wrong?

I would take it. I love the island. I was once offered a job there, but the salary was the same that I was making on the mainland, so I couldn't justify it. I love the vibe of Oahu though. It's super laid back.

You 2 need to email back and forth I think. Sounds like a perfect contact. Find out from your employer how they factor COL increase and ask 1010 to see if it's reasonable. If not, get the research and calculations done and go back to the table ready for a smart counter. You can't risk going if you're going to be underwater from day 1.

Absolutely go with little family here. Plus, even if the locals hate you, it's no different than the culcha here who hates you just as equally.

Cost of living calculators show that you need to make 204% of what you make in Baton Rouge to maintain the same standard of living. If you make $100k in BR, you need to make $204k in Honolulu. How much COL are they offering?

If they are offering less, they don't care about your welfare and they are just using you to fill the position until they get the next guy.
