My experience circa 2003:
I was 17 but could buy beer anytime I wanted at a small town grocery store where my dad farmed. They knew I was underage but didn't care. The agreement was that if I didn't recognize everyone in the store I wouldn't try to buy it until they left.
I stopped one day to buy a case of beer. When I got out of my truck an ABC guy came up to me and asked me to try and buy beer to see if I would get id'd as I was obviously underage. As I walked into the store (ABC guy was coming in a few seconds behind me) I said "Bobby don't sell it to me." I got a confused look and then he saw the guy walking in behind me. I put a case of beer on the counter and he asked me for my ID. He told me he couldn't sell it to me and I left looking dejected. I made the block and went right back to the store after the ABC guy left and purchased the same case of beer that was still sitting on the counter waiting on me. I got a thank you from the stores owner and they said I bought them about 6 months before they get checked again.

Well I saved somebody from getting entrapped.
Story is 100% true. I'm still friends with Bobby and he still sells beer to me. Although I'm well past legal age now
Eta if you would really want me to get into the unbelievable about that store...the first time I bought beer there I pulled up driving my dads truck at 9 years old and charged two cases of Miller lite to his account. And an off duty sheriffs deputy was in the store at the time. Deputy just asked me where we were cutting rice. Both of these stories are true. It's just the kind of store it is. They probably still sell to local underaged kids that can be trusted

Just walk in and look?
If we couldn't hey mister, we would just go up and throw the case on the counter and if they ID'd us then we'd say we left our ID's in the truck then just leave.
But more often than not, there would be some 40 year old meth head at the counter who doesn't give a crap and would sell it.

In BR every other station with 4 or less pumps is Lebanese owned. I've never been carded by the few particular ones I'm thinking of. Idk what it is but Lebanese are the chummiest middle-easterners in my experience. I think I read somewhere before there is an especially large amount of them in BR.

Yes, you just have to know which person in the parking lot to ask. If you ask the average random person, you're going to get turned down 99% of the time because most people won't risk getting busted buying beer for some kids they don't even know. But if you find a gas station with a homeless looking drunk guy in front and offer him a few extra bucks for his trouble, you'll probably have success getting booze
