How do you baws pass a kidney stone?? Looking for some help here from you seasoned kidney stone passers to get this thing out!
Had to pass a kidney stone back in my 30's. I think they gave me something to dilate the channel
Anyway - it passed while I was at work - standing at a urinal - didn't hurt, but did feel funny - glad I was the only one in the room.
not to worry - "this too shall pass" = good luck - should be no problem

Kidney stones might be comprised of several minerals and salts; calcium oxalate is the most common type, but there are others.
Not sure if there are tests and guidance for specific stone types, but aside from the generally good advice of hydrating better, I'd start supplementing vitamin K or eating more vitamin K rich food (K2 in particular, though I'm not sure if you'd be better off with the MK-4 or MK-7 forms of K2... you can google that). In short, K deficient people are somewhat more prone to developing stones, and consuming K helps your body place calcium in the right spots (bones & teeth vs soft tissue), thus lowering the amount of free calcium that might bind with oxalate... IIRC, people who take a lot of vitamin D without K sometimes develop issues with kidney stones.
There's no guarantee this would help your specific issue, but supplementing K2 is a logical first step (even if it's a shot in the dark) since calcium is often involved. If I were you, I would look into high quality brands and would look further into how high you can dose it in the short term.

I passed an 8mm stone and a 6mm stone...12mm stone removed via lithotripsy.
8mm is the size of an M&M. My dick hole ain’t that big!

Experience varies a lot. My 1st hurt like hell with the main act taking only 6 hours. My 2nd was annoying. I thought it was a 2-day painful gut problem until the stone popped out, and I was pain free. 3rd was a snooze but lasted 45 days with occasional back pain and slight burning during urination. It was 9x5mm. I assume it passed lengthwise. Now I have small stones in each kidney that a urologist measures once a year.
As to meds, for the 3rd my GP set me up with a few OxiC if I needed it and tamsulosin to loosen the tubes. That made me so loopy that I could not drive safely. I stopped taking them.
Next step, see a urologist, kidney stones usually happen again. You'll get an advanced urine analysis to identify any metabolic issues. I take potassium citrate (Kcit) hoping it will stop stone growth.
I'm of mixed opinion about alcohol. For #1 at 22 I had overindulged with tequila. Being drunk while in agony makes it all the worse. Moderation is advised.

Start drinking beer. Seriously
my dad was not a drinker at all, but suffered from numerous kidney stones and that was the only time I ever saw him drink beer (or anything else).

A beer a day keeps the kidney stones away.

A lot of water. Two 500 mg tylenol

As an MD I have to agree with this. Drinking beer along with plenty of water will help you pass the kidney stone faster.

Had my first and hopefully only one in September 2025. Felt like someone was stabbing me to death. Ended up in urgent care. 100% the worst pain i've experienced in my life.
I ultimately passed it about 24 hours later.
They just said to drink tons of water..
God speed.

I had a 10mm get stuck and get infected that required a 6 week stent. The worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life was getting that stent out.
I’ve had a few lithotripsies but a stent was used for only the last one. Apparently that particular doctor in the clinic always inserts a stent. And you are right! It was awful getting that thing removed! I swear those two female nurses used a pair BBQ tongs and enjoyed it!

Apple cider vinegar
I've been told drinking apple cider vinegar and lemon juice shots works as a preventative to break down the stones and that beer helps to pass them once they're stuck.

My first stone was an 8mm one. The pain stopped, didn't think anything of it. Couple of days later, was taking a piss and my pee stream stopped. About the time I thought WTF the stone shot out and make a "plink" sound in the toilet. Even after it passes it can roll around in your bladder for some time.

Sally K Norton
Toxic Superfoods
Her book is focused on oxalic acid containing foods which produce oxalates in the body, which end up in various places in the body and cause damage.
According to research 80% of kidney stones are due to oxalic acid and oxalates.
It’s interesting

If you struggle with nausea from the pain, also ask for a prescription of Zofran
Ondansatron is Zofran.
I've had two stones that I know of, a couple of others I've suspected. First one woke me up in the middle of the night. Location of the pain made me think appendix. Went to urgent care and they couldn't rule it out. Sent me to the ER for a CT and got it diagnosed. Gave me flowmax and passed it that day without feeling it.
Most recent one I had when my son was violently ill. We were taking him to urgent care and had to pee before we left. Flow slowed down and could feel the pressure and then bang out it came with massive pee force behind it.
Friend of mine says he birthed a stone. Took a full 9 months from first feeling it to passing it.

drink liquids and wait - my advise to you is this - if you have not passed it within a week or so, go back to a Urologist and get checked out. I had stones in my right kidney that I didn't know about, and they ended up fusing into a stone that was roughly 65% of my right kidney in size - I got a bad UTI and was in the hospital for 3 days the get the UTI under control, and then surgery though my back to get the stone out.
take it seriously - when you pass it, you will know - but if you have concerns, go get looked at.- save yourself some hassle down the road. H have had stones every year or so since 2000, so i feel your pain.

i currently have a stent in on my right side. Doctor tried two weeks ago to laser remove an 8 mm stone stuck in my right ureter. The tool wouldn't fit into the ureter so doc had to install a stent to stretch it out for the tool to fit. The past two weeks have not been fun. This stent is driving me crazy.
What's crazy is I feel no pain from the stone. If I didn't have a scan showing it in there, I would never know.
I go later part of this week to have the stent removed and go for try number two to laser remove the stone. Apparently, I will have another stent installed post-op to ensure everything keeps flowing for a few days. Then I can remove the stent myself or the doctor can.
I am so ready for this to be over.
