Im just saying everyone I know from Laffy when they start talking about it they always mention how awesome Reds is. Its really nice but looks like a normal big city resort club. The price is legit though

Red's was ever improving and trying to stay up with whatever the people wanted, it was a lot more than just a "gym"

A big thing that irked him, but he never said anything to those people, were those abled bodied that showed up in jacked up trucks/vehicles and parked in the handicapped spaces. They had a tag or plate, but they were able to get out of their big vehicles and lift weights for a couple hours in all of their bodybuilding gear. Those spots were meant for the truly handicapped members, and we know who those people are. Those of you reading this I hope you feel guilty b/c you should. Do it for the legend and start parking in the regular spots like the rest of us 'average joes' out there, you owe it to the man !

Did Boyer Coe ever own gyms in Louisiana?

Yes, Boyer opened a gym and health food store in Metairie… pretty sure off Severn and West Esplanade. My HS friends worked out there in the early 80’s. Boyer grew up in Lake Chuck and went to USL. He trained at Reds for years as Red mentored him. The original Reds gym was located next to Judice Inn hamburgers - I believe it’s currently occupied by a seamstress or tailor business. My MIL dated Red in college.

that's been since I was a member but when the 80s were cranking that bar was a legit place to go for an early happy hour or launch an evening of prowling, place was crawling with spoiled, hot, young oil baron's daughters(and kept trophy wives )

This is my bosses cousin. He was talking about him this week saying he wasn’t doing well.

No, but I could name the likely culprits over the years.

Man all of these stories. If you were a member there you know they’re all true. He was a real one. It’s still to this day the best gym/health club I’ve ever been to. It’s easily the best in Louisiana.

He will be missed but his legacy will carry on as he built a true empire in Lafayette. It’s honestly one of the best things about living in Lafayette. People that don’t know just assume “gym” like planet fitness. This place is a community center for Lafayette.

This. All of this.

What a good man he was.

I have never been but I always heard good things about him. Lafayette people always had high esteem for Red’s. It’s an institution there.

I bet you could. There aren't too many people that I've seen there with 6 plates per side . A very small number but I've seen it

The soles of those Converse sneakers were probably squealing in pain during that lift.

He is the only person I knew who showed up to work at 3:00 am. He would open up at 4:00 am. I went once back in the day and saw Nelson Stokley in there.
