That’s a regulation problem, not a legalization problem. It’s why the “legalize and tax the hell out of it” crowd is misguided.

Don't forget the role the CIA played.

Oh I agree. We have too much regulation in this country anyway for literally everything.
I’d like to see less regulation, especially around butchers and meat, but alcohol and marijuana too.
Eta
I do remember one of the huge arguments on this site and nationwide was legalize it and tax the shite out of it to make money though. I guess it would have to be legalized federally

That has never worked nor will it ever work. If it did the fentanyl deaths would have significantly cut down on opiate addiction.

We never used the right tactic. We only played games (and still do). A real war on drugs would have involved death sentence to dealers on the spot and one (and only one) chance at rehab. Still want to use dope?, life in prison. Now that’s a war!

Alcohol
While it's slightly outside the century window, they gladly shutdown alcohol pre prohibition. Odd use of a wartime power, but the voters asked for it after that, and that was on them.

Legalize it like alcohol.
I'm surprised that politicians haven't made this move so they can use it each election season. Legalizing it and regulating it would generate an astronomical amount of tax revenue, not to mention the jobs that would be created for meth/cocaine/heroin manufacturing facilities.

Potheads and women will be the downfall of this country!

If you are ready to just scrap the Constitution there are a metric shite ton of other crime deterrence/prevention measures we could implement.
Plus death on the spot for dealers is proved not to be effective every day since all dealers live under the very real threat of execution at the hands of other dealers every day.

Non violent crime incarceration is a catch term that sucks. Breaking into homes, stealing catalytic converters, a/c units for the copper are considered non violent offense that drug addicts normally commit. For decades there have been public service campaigns showing the harm of drug addiction. Of a person is so much of a mental midget that they still decide to get hooked to the point of committing these crimes, then they can surely deal with the repercussions.
I agree. F**k all of that lowlife trash. Anyone who's "good" with "theft by crackhead" becoming "just something we will all have to deal with" is an absolute moron.
If we are going to be told we must bear the burden of all the illegal activity drug addicts bring to the table, then I would be all for raising the "risk factor" all the way to the top for them.

This is a bunch of bullshite and you know it
shite just scan the OT any random day. Multiple people are being beaten or killed. There is tons and tons of violence in this country and they deserve to be locked up to protect society.
The people you are referring to a mainly smugglers in federal prison for smuggling mass quantities of drugs. Or people arrested for other offenses that plead down to a lesser drug charge.

Federal spending on drug control efforts was nearly $26 billion in 2018 and adjusted for inflation, that's an increase of almost 73% since 2008. For 2021, the federal drug control budget proposal by the White House would have the government spending more than $35 billion, slightly higher than what was spent in 2020.
Think about what an extra 35 billion could be done if correctly applied to mental health, rehabilitation, or fighting hunger could accomplish

Let’s be honest about the war on drugs
It was a crime against humanity and everyone knows it. fricking people locked up for life for selling an herb or a coca plant, while murderers go free after 10 years?
The least paroled prisoners were drug offenders.
The government went out of its way to send a message, like the death penalty was thought to discourage violent crimes, insane prison sentences were thought to discourage drug use.

Legalized drugs would be a fraction of the cost
One would think so, but, will they really? From what I have witnessed state legalized weed is still more expensive than black market. Why believe that retail hard drugs from the govt. will be any different ?

Or how about never taken from tax payers in the first place.

Food yep, housing yep - abandoned mall, cell phone - nope. Go through mall with stretchers a couple of times a day to pick up dead. When an addict gets tired of living like a doped up loser, we'll help him with rehab.
PS, bonus, If the dopes free maybe the scumbag dealers and cartels can make a living selling cigarettes, trans-fats, and ammo.

Well yeah, that would be ideal but it’s a little late for that

Questions.
If legal crack costs $35 at the drug store, but $20 on the corner, why do we think the drug user is going to pay that?
And will legal distributors be allowed to trade sex for drugs? How will your typical crackhead come up with the funds to pay for legal drugs?
Does legal distribution keep a crackhead from stealing from his parents, friends, and employer to support his habit?
Serious questions. Addicts aren't rational humans.
