I love the drive on I-70 from Denver to Grand Junction. Cross Vail Pass and drop the hammer.

Visited UT for the first time a month ago - NE UT. The people seemed nice but very socially awkward. Maybe it was just the places I visited, but it seemed like a common cultural thread. Also, they're absolute nazis when it comes to ID-ing people for booze. I've never been carded like that before in my life.

As shitty as south LA is, at least the people here are a hell of a lot warmer, sociable, and have some sort of cultural vibrancy. Up there it's about as plain whitebread as it gets.

The weirdest is Grand Junction, where the streets are just letters of the number of miles from the Utah line. They use fractions for it.

So theres a G road and 24 1/2 road intersection.

Yeah, it's really bizarre. I was reading this stuff on Waze and it was kinda confusing.

I made it from Eagle to Leadville in an hour flat a few weeks ago.

If you love outdoors..it’s amazing.

Anywhere close to SLC.. so much skiing and outdoor nearby.

Summer gets hot AF in afternoon and windy but mornings are nice and no humidity.

Winters are well..wintery.

My parents moved to Logan 1.5 years ago. Being mormon doesnt really matter in the cities at this point. The schools are excellent. You should really consider it if an option.

My father is outdoorsy and loves it up ther

Actually Logan is where we are looking.

The only negative about SLC is the air quality.

Winter inversions are brutal for people with asthma or any kind of lung issues.

It's a great spot. Close enough to SLC, but not too close. Really beautiful area with tons to do outdoors.

Really consider it. The schools in Logan are great, to the point I wouldnt mind finding a way to live there for my little girl to go to school. Plus Utah State is a quality state school, right in the middle of town.

Got everything you need there in town, without having to deal with the size of SLC, but its right there if you need big city stuff.

And you can be in Yellowstone in a few hours.

Try to get up on the hills around Logan.

I have a home in the Heber Valley and my wife and I probably spend about 70 days per year there. It’s Mormon the way Metairie is Catholic. You won’t notice it much, plus it’s diluting every year.

The outdoor activities are fantastic. The weather is great. You will get some weeks in the winter that are messy and cold but not many. Mostly it’s great weather all year long.

Utah is an example of how great this country could be if we could ever get everyone assimilated.

I’d say it is more like Colorado 15-20 years ago. 15 reminds me a lot of 25 in terms of being a rolling suburb from at least Provo to Ogden (and maybe Logan). Nevertheless, it is a great state and I genuinely enjoy going up to Logan and over to Bear Lake.

I think people here might underestimate how blue and expensive some of these mountain west cities are becoming (see Boise and SLC). They have not totally tipped yet, but without a decent amount of money you are likely to end up in a Denver/California type suburb in a beautiful area. This isn’t a bad thing, but it may not reflect everyone’s expectations of these cities.

PS: SLC is about 4hr from Jackson Hole and 6hrs from Yellowstone.

Five hours to Yellowstone if you drive like a granny. I get to Jackson in 3 1/2 hours from Heber City, which is maybe 10 minutes closer.

Logan is largely Mormon.

Kids will have a hard time with girlfriends/boyfriends if you're not LDS.

edit: And look up soaking. "It's not sex"

Born, raised in La. Lived in Utah most of 30 yr. Moved to Shreveport (ugh) 2 yr ago due to wife health reasons. Loved time in Utah. Lived Utah County (Provo) and Cache County (Logan). SLC very different from those 2 counties-less than 50% LDS compared to 90+% in those 2. Had some but very few issues, either with kids/schools/neighbors or work. Gov't still dominated by LDS but think you'll find discrimination while not absent, very minimal and situation-specific. SLC voted most homosexual-friendly city in US few years ago and the med school preferentially admits non-LDS.

Ditto on the air quality-that's why we had to move away.
